Abstract: A multi-function blade-and-anvil type cutting tool that uses standard type razor blades includes a blade-and-anvil section connected to a first handle portion and a non-tool blade holder and a blade clamp assembly connected to a second handle portion. The standard blades are able to be changed with out tools when the first and second handle portions are moved from a first open position to a second open position to allow the blade holder and the clamp assembly to pivot with one another causing a screw and O-ring latch to move away from a latching slot in the second handle portion. This movement positions the razor blade between the screw and O-ring latch and a blade clamp guide element for easy removal. Each handle portion having a gripping cover disposed thereon. One of the handle portions has a sliding storage tray disposed therein for storing replacement razor blades.

Abstract: The cutting tool, or folding scissors, has first and second knife blades and first and second handles, each of the first and second knife blades and first and second handles being positionable relative to one another. The knife blades and handles effect at least a scissors cutting function in at least one open position of the tool. In particular, the first and second knife blades and the first and second handles effect the scissors cutting function in each of a plurality of open positions of the tool. The tool also has a locking assembly that locks the first knife blade and first handle in at least one first position and that locks the second knife blade and the second handle in at least one second position, independently of the first knife blade and first handle. Combinations of the first and second positions respectively define the open positions of the tool.

  • Patent number: 6574867
Abstract: A device for cutting floors that attaches to the arbor on a circular saw, including an extension shaft, and an outer brace to support the extension shaft. The extension shaft extends past the outer brace a distance sufficient to permit a small trim blade, with a guard to fit under a cabinet toe kick. The small blade is held on the end of the extension shaft and is provided with a small guard. The device allows a user to place the circular saw on a floor and to position the small blade under the toe kick against the cabinet bottom to cut a line in the floor along the base of the cabinets. In one embodiment, the base plate of the circular saw is removable to allow slightly greater cutting depth. The saw attachment allows a worker to cut through a floor and sub floor around base cabinets.

Abstract: A convertible knife assembly includes a knife and a conversion piece. The knife includes a blade with a handle end portion, a tip, a cutting edge intermediate the handle end an the tip, and a spine opposite the cutting edge. The conversion piece has a spine-opposing portion and a handle portion such that the conversion piece is adapted to be mounted on the knife pivotally with the spine-opposing portion opposing the spine of the blade and the handle portion opposing the handle of the knife. The action of a user squeezing the handle portion of the conversion piece and handle of the knife toward each other causes the spine-opposing portion of the conversion piece and the spine of the blade to move toward each other in order to bear against an object the user positions between the spine-opposing portion of the conversion piece and the spine of the blade.

  • Patent number: 6565294
Abstract: A plunge cutting device for use with a portable drill, drill press, or other rotary drive source which is capable of cutting irregularly shaped openings or workpieces in a single operation. A drive chain, belt, or other means carries a plurality of cutting teeth along a path defined by a series of chain guides. A lower plate, adjacent the surface being cut serves as a finer resolution guide for the cutting teeth to define their cutting path. The configuration and orientation of the cutting teeth causes them to push inward against the edge of the plate so that they follow its shape closely. A preferred shield encloses the teeth, chain, and drive mechanism for safety and to serve as a vacuum shroud for dust collection. The shield may also act as a guide, holding the teeth in position prior to the start of the cutting operation.

Abstract: A hair trimmer or other attachment can be secured to a conventional hair clipper. The attachment has a stationary blade and a moving blade that cut hair when the moving blade reciprocates. The moving blade of the attachment is driven by a moving blade of the hair clipper, which also reciprocates. The attachment has a housing which secures the attachment to the stationary blade or other part of the hair clipper. A drive member engages the moving blade of the hair clipper when the attachment is secured to the hair clipper, and the drive member in turn drives the moving blade of the hair trimmer attachment to cut hair. The attachment can be easily detached so that the hair clipper blades can be used to cut hair in the usual manner.

Abstract: A manually operated modified bolt cutter is placed in a fixture supporting a bolt cutter in a reversed operating position allowing the operator to cut small dimension materials using a one hand or arm pushing motion instead of the two hand or arm compression motion. The fixture holding the bolt cutter is fixedly mounted on a bench or like support and has two upright members between which is held one handle of the bolt cutter. Bolts through the side members and one handle support the bolt cutter in the fixture. When the moveable handle is in a near vertical position the jaws of the cutter are open. When the moveable handle is pushed away from the operator, toward the rear of the cutter, the jaws close making the cut. The moveable handle is bent at an angle to decrease the operator's wrist to arm angle.

The blade is provided at one end with a pointed tip and at the other end a flat tip. When the blade is inserted into the handle at the end with the pointed tip, the survival knife appears in the form of a flat-tipped knife, and when the blade is inserted into the handle at the end with the flat tip, the survival knife appears in the form of a pointed-tipped knife. The blade is also provided on its body with a line of length-adjusting holes. By inserting the blade into the handle with one of the length-adjusting holes aligned with a fixing hole on the handle, a length of the blade exposed from the handle can be changed into longer or shorter to meet actual need. Thus, up to four different forms are available from only one single survival knife to conveniently perform different functions.

  • Patent number: 6439088
Abstract: Vegetation trimmers and methods for reconfiguring a trimmer are provided. A coupling mechanism permits reconfiguration of the trimmer between a first, e.g., trimming, configuration and a second, e.g., edging, configuration. The coupling mechanism may, in one embodiment, be used to couple a handle assembly with an extension tube. By rotating the handle assembly relative to the extension tube, the trimmer is moved between the trimming and edging configurations. In one embodiment, the mechanism may apply a biasing force to the handle assembly relative to the extension tube. The biasing force tends to bias the trimmer towards and retain the trimmer in the desired configuration. To switch the trimmer between configurations, the operator may impart a twisting force between the handle assembly and the extension tube where the twisting force is sufficient to overcome the biasing force. Optionally, a longitudinal force may also be applied before or during the application of the twisting force.
