    Abstract: A belt buckle knife is disclosed in which a knife portion can be removed with the knife blade locked in its open position without the need of removing the belt buckle knife from the belt. The belt buckle knife includes a buckle portion which engages and fastens the belt independent of the knife portion. The knife portion is selectively operable from a knife closed position to a knife open position. In the knife closed position, the knife blade is engaged by an open tapered groove running along the length of the buckle portion, with the knife portion and the buckle portion being securely fastened together. In the knife open position, the knife blade is locked open with respect to the knife handle, and the knife portion can readily be removed from the buckle portion.

    Abstract: A knife having a blade pivoted to a handle is disclosed with a slidable bolt within the handle, the bolt being extended to lock the blade in an open position and retracted to permit closing of the blade. In one form of the invention, the blade includes a camming portion which retracts the bolt when the blade is opened. Also, a biasing mechanism is provided for urging the bolt into locking engagement with the blade. In another form of the invention, the bolt blade is locked in a closed position until the bolt is retracted. The handle is preferably of a unitary one-piece construction and has walls which define a tapered blade receiving slot. Bushings are held at an angle by these walls so that the bushings bear against the sides of the blade and aid in maintaining the blade in all operating positions. The knife blade is pivoted to the handle in a manner which permits removal of the blade for replacement or repair.

    Abstract: A jack knife which may be disassembled with a minimum of tools for purposes of cleaning the interior, changing blades or the like. The knife has a pair of liner side plates encasing a backspring and thereby providing a compartment for receiving a knife blade. Each of the side plates has a slot of nonuniform width near the head end for receiving an annularly grooved pin. This pin also passes through the head end of the backspring. A pivot through the back-spring engages a cooperative pair of apertures in the side plates and provides a pivot for the rotation of the side plates with respect to each other when disassembly is desired. A blade pivot member passes through one side plate and through an opening in the tang of the knife blade and thence is suitably engaged with the second side plate.

    Abstract: A useful device, such as a cutting implement, is provided for suspending from a key ring or the like. For example, the cutting implement comprises an elongated blade having a cutting edge along at least one edge. The blade is further comprised of a substantially cylindrical first mounting sleeve through one end of the blade. An elongated sheath is provided which has an enclosure along a portion of the length of the sheath. The enclosure is open along its length. The enclosure engages the blade and contains the cutting edge of the blade when the implement is in the closed position. The sheath further has a substantially cylindrical second mounting sleeve through one end of the sheath. One of the sleeves is removably nested within the other sleeve to provide a securing device for detachably and pivotally connecting the blade and sheath. This type securing device may also be utilized on other useful devices, for securing such devices to a key ring or the like.

The knife has a pair of side plates each having a slot of nonuniform width near each end that align with corresponding slots in the facing plate. Annularly grooved pins fit in each aligned set of slots. A back spring is positioned between the side plates, and a pivot therethrough engages a cooperative pair of holes in the side plates. One grooved pin passes through a circular opening in the tang of a blade, the pin being the pivot for the blade. A second grooved pin passes through a circular opening in a locking cam unit, the pin being the pivot for the cam. When rotated in one direction the cam unit locks the grooved pins in the slots and tensions the back spring against the blade tang.
