  • Patent number: 6748661
Abstract: A shock absorbing blade stop for a folding knife comprising; an elongated, cylinder shaped body, with o-ring grooves provided near its opposite ends. O-rings of a resilient material affixed to the o-ring grooves and the completed assembly located within the handle frames of a folding knife by means of location holes provided in the handle frames for that purpose. Location holes are of an inside diameter closely corresponding to the outside diameter of the mounted o-rings thereby producing a shock absorbing effect in response to the impact of a fast opening blade colliding against the blade stop. An enlarged center section of the blade stop is provided with an increased diameter slightly larger than the locating holes of the handle frames so as to capture the blade stop within the space between handle frames.

Abstract: An improved folding knife and one-handed opening system. The key improvement consists of a manual opening lever (100) moving alongside the blade (40) operated by the thumb by pressing upwards on the thumb bar (120). Because the manual opening lever (100) rotates about the fastener-bearing (60), it can be returned to its out-of-the-way initial position after opening the knife. Thus, this invention provides a simple one-handed opening system which does not intrude into the working area of the blade.

  • Patent number: 4719700
Abstract: A knife of the type having a casing and a blade pivotably mounted thereto has an actuator button slidably mounted to the casing. The blade has a concentric wheel associated therewith. One end of a non-extensible linkage is connected to the actuator, and the opposite end of the non-extensible linkage is wrapped around a portion of the wheel. When the user exerts a force to slide the actuator, the user-exerted force is transmitted by the non-extensible linkage to rotate the wheel, thereby pivoting the blade from its closed position to its open position.

  • Patent number: 4525928
Abstract: A scabbard for holding a knife having a folding blade, the scabbard having means therein for engaging thumb slits in the blade of the knife while the knife is being removed from the scabbard to enable the user of the knife to pivot the blade to the open position as the knife is being withdrawn from the scabbard. The means for engaging the thumb slits in the blade can be two pins mounted in the side of the scabbard or two longitudinal ridges or springs extending from the inner walls of the scabbard to engage a substantial length of the thumb slit in the blade of the knife. In one embodiment of the invention, the conventional thumb slits of a folding knife are extended to the end of the portion of the knife blade which first contacts the means for engaging the knife blade to enable the thumb slits to be engaged by the ridges, springs, or pins in the scabbard.

  • Patent number: 4426779
Abstract: There is disclosed a holder for a clasp knife in which the blade is held in a slot in a partly open condition but with the blade still spring-pressed to closed position so that the handle of the blade is held tightly in the holder and yet is accessible to the hand of the user and can be pulled outwardly and upwardly in one smooth motion to both release the knife from the holder and to open the blade. The holder has a slotted face conforming to the front of the knife and a roller spanning the slot in position to be engaged by the tip of the knife blade so that the spring-bias to closed position will pull the handle of the knife into juxtaposition with the slotted face. The holder has bottom and top projections adapted to hold the pivot end and free end of the knife against longitudinal movement. The bottom projection has a dish-shaped depression therein to hold the pivoted end against being withdrawn from the holder until after the free end has been withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 4218794
Abstract: A combination tool capable of drilling a hole in a workpiece, driving a fastener into that hole, and withstanding the vibrational environment of a rotary hammer is provided. An adaptor having a tapered portion which is inserted in the chuck of a power tool, such as a rotary hammer, has a polygonal drive transmitting configuration on its other end. A longitudinal bore extending at least partially along the axis of the adaptor receives a drill bit. The bit and bore have mating external and internal tapers to insure driving engagement. Once the bit has drilled a hole in a workpiece, a drive collar is slipped onto the polygonal drive transmitting portion of the adaptor and the fastener-engaging recess thereof used to drive a self-tapping fastener into that hole.

  • Patent number: 4095337
Abstract: A finger actuator is provided for attachment on a conventional knife blade of the sort which is folded into the handle when not in use. The actuator comprises a resilient tool steel saddle arrangement fitted very tightly over the knife blade. A first plate extends upwardly from said saddle in a direction away from the edge of the knife blade and then extends outwardly in a direction substantially transverse to the longitudinal axis of the knife blade to provide a flat plate area against which the thumb pushes to open the blade while the other fingers of the hand hold the handle in the palm.
