Patent number: 11090819Abstract: The invention relates, inter alia, to a knife with a housing comprising a first housing part (12) and a second housing part (13) and also a blade carrier (20), in which a blade (15) is retained, wherein the first housing part (12), in particular for a blade changeover, can be released from the second housing part (13) and fastened thereon again, wherein the blade carrier (20) is mounted in the housing (11) such that it can be moved between a basic position and a cutting position. The special feature is that the blade carrier (20) is connected to the second housing part (13) in a non-releasable manner, and that the blade carrier (20) and the second housing part (13) form a preassemblable structural unit which can be fastened on the first housing part (12) in a releasable manner.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2011Date of Patent: August 17, 2021Assignee: MARTOR KGInventor: Wolfgang Doeren

Patent number: 10800051Abstract: A utility knife includes a housing with multiple interior spaces, each for holding a utility blade slidably therein. A U-shaped spring-clip has two ends rotationally fixed with the housing. A catch section of the spring clip traverses a retention slot formed in the housing. The spring clip may be pushed from an inward position into an outward position to allow the utility blade to pass from the interior space out through a slot to exit an end of the housing. When the spring clip is released with a retaining notch of the utility blade aligned with the retention slot, the retaining clip engages the retaining notch to capture the utility blade in a deployed position. Preferably the housing comprises several thin metal plates stacked together and fastened with a plurality of mechanical fasteners.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2019Date of Patent: October 13, 2020Inventors: John Ronan, Wayne Biggs

Patent number: 8468702Abstract: A knife has a pair of housing parts relatively shiftable between an open position and a closed position and a base on one of the housing parts forming a blade seat. A holding arm mounted on the base is movable relative thereto between a blade-holding position retaining a blade in the seat and a blade-change position freeing the blade so that in the blade-change position the blade can be switched. Interengaging formations on the other housing part and on the arm shift the holding arm from the blade-holding position into the blade-change position on movement of the housing parts from the closed position into the open position.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2010Date of Patent: June 25, 2013Assignee: Martor KGInventor: Wolfgang Doeren

Patent number: 7562455Abstract: An out-the-front automatic knife incorporates dual locking and release mechanisms that define a three-point blade-handle interconnection between the blade and the handle when the blade is locked in the open position. A single trigger is operable to automatically open the knife, and to automatically close the knife. Separate firing and retraction springs may be provided with different spring strength to vary the speed and strength of the blade moving to the open position, and to the closed position. Blade guide systems cause the blade to travel longitudinally and linearly. The handle substantially encloses the blade and incorporates an access port to facilitate cleaning and maintenance of components housed in the handle interior.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2007Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: Mentor Group, L.L.C.Inventors: William McHenry, Steven Ingram

Patent number: 7389587Abstract: A utility knife which includes a feature for presenting a user with a replacement blade holder containing replacement blades when the separate halves of the knife body, referred to as handle portions, are opened to expose an interior cavity is disc losed. A pivotable latching lever selectively movable between a latched position and an unlatched position permits the two handle portions to pivot relative to one another about a pivot axis when the lever is in the unlatched position so that the replacement blade holder may be presented to the user. The disclosed utility knife having a replacement blade holder and a latching lever is capable of very economic manufacture, yet is dependable in operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2005Date of Patent: June 24, 2008Assignee: Helen of Troy LimitedInventors: Anthony Di Bitonto, Mark Prommel, Goeran Jerstroem, Conor McNamara

Patent number: 5571214Abstract: A human forearm prosthesis is disclosed which has attached thereto a device comprising a housing, a knife blade suitable for cutting food, a projection on the knife blade for restraining the travel of the knife blade into the housing when it is desired to retract the knife blade into the housing for storage thereof, and out of the housing when it is desired to extend the knife blade for use of the knife blade for cutting food. Preferably, the knife blade moves into and out of the housing by force of gravity. The travel of the knife blade is restrained by a guide slot which extends substantially the length of the housing and a projection located on or near the back end of the knife blade, which projection travels in the guide slot. The device of the invention has a spring operated knife blade release mechanism that blocks the knife blade from passing out of the housing when it is desired to restrain the blade in retracted position.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1995Date of Patent: November 5, 1996Inventor: Edward Niziol

Patent number: 5203085Abstract: A safety utility knife has a weighted pawl which, upon a slip of the knife, disengages from a blade holder to allow the latter to be retracted by a spring. The tooth of the blade holder engages the blocking surface of the pawl with only line or point contact and the blocking surface itself is tangential to a circle centered on the pawl pivot axis. The pawl spring is a coil spring extending in the direction of displacement of the blade holder and generally corresponds to the retraction spring.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1992Date of Patent: April 20, 1993Assignee: Martor-Argentax E.H.
