Patent number: 10190351Abstract: Concealed door closers are found in most commercial building and serve a useful purpose in controlling the closure of exterior entrance doors. The correct placement and installation of a door closer presents an arduous challenge for an installer who is often faced with uneven surfaces upon an active construction site. The related art relies upon the use of plumb bobs attached to upper door frame components and measuring implements placed upon ground surfaces. The task is so difficult that special training is required and specialist in the art are often employed install door closers. The presently disclosed embodiments comprise a jig system allowing for one or two door closers to be correctly positioned without the use of external or hand held measuring implements. An optional laser mounting system vitiates the need to attach lasers to door closer spindles.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2016Date of Patent: January 29, 2019Inventor: Joshua Gandy

Patent number: 6263941Abstract: A cleaving tool provides pressurized gas to the edge of a substrate in combination with a sharpened edge to cleave the substrate at a selected interface. The edge of the tool is tapped against the perimeter of a substrate, such as a bonded substrate, and a burst of gas pressure is then applied at approximately the point of contact with the edge of the tool. The combination of mechanical force and gas pressure separates the substrate into two halves at a selected interface, such as a weakened layer in a donor wafer.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1999Date of Patent: July 24, 2001Assignee: Silicon Genesis CorporationInventors: Michael A. Patent number: 6085850Abstract: A miniature impact tool in which a cam and cam follower assembly is utilized for moving a striker backward by converting rotary motion of a drive shaft to a linear motion. The striker is in contact with a spring/guide pin (plunger) assembly and is moved away from a surface to be struck during a portion of the rotation cycle of the cam. On further rotation the cam surface is cut away and spring action drives the striker forward, causing impact of a cutting tool (chisel) against a workpiece. A plurality of cam lobe surfaces provides predetermined and reproducible impact forces of the cutting tool on the workpiece, even during vibration of the tool. To minimize damage to the cam and cam follower when the tool is over speeded, an elastomeric cam or a cushioning coating or sleeve prevents adverse contact (such as metal-to-metal contact) between the cam and cam follower.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1999Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Inventor: Raymond J. Patent number: 6076431Abstract: A striking tool has an elongated metal core having a bottom end for contacting a workpiece and an upper end for receiving the impact of a hammer or the like, and a plastic overlay secured around a substantial portion of the core, with at least a portion of the upper end of the core extending beyond the plastic overlay. The plastic overlay includes a grip area and a deflector flange extending a substantial distance outwardly above the grip area so as to protect a user's hand. The deflector flange comprises, in a first embodiment, a first deflector tier and a second deflector tier positioned below the first tier. Preferably, there are several angled ribs spaced radially around the plastic overlay, extending from the first tier, and then downwardly and outwardly to an outer edge of the second tier, to aid in deflecting errant hammer blows away from the user's hand.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1998Date of Patent: June 20, 2000Assignee: Maxtech, Inc.Inventor: Kailash C. Patent number: 5966818Abstract: A chisel with a removably mountable blade is provided which consists of a handle for the chisel having a head region formed with a detent to provide a space for receiving a first cutting edge of the blade, while the other opposed cutting edge of the blade is arranged for a cutting operation. The space provided by the detent in the head region is constructed and arranged to prevent the cutting edge in the detent from contacting the handle portion during a chiseling operation, thereby preventing dulling of the edge prior to it being pivoted into position for a subsequent cutting operation. The blade is provided with a transverse axis at opposed sides of which are arranged a cutting portion and a rake, which cutting portion and rake are asymmetrical to the cutting portion and rake at the opposite side of the transverse axis of the blade.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1996Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Inventor: Steven E. Patent number: 5953820Abstract: The hand tool has a shaft with a distal end which is configured to receive any one of a variety of different sized chisel or scraper blades or the like, via corresponding male and female dovetail connections, for example. Storage space for the extra blades, if desired, may be provided in the handle which is secured to the shaft, or may be provided via depressions in a panel of a tool case of the type commonly referred to as "gift cases". Where storage space is provided in the handle, preferably this is accomplished by virtue of a spring-loaded collar which overlies lower portions of elongated rotatable cover pieces, preventing rotation. When the spring-loaded collar is retracted, the cover pieces can be rotated, to reveal storage areas on either side of the handle.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1997Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: Maxtech, Inc.Inventor: Kailash C. Patent number: 5930899Abstract: A pneumatic scraping tool includes a pneumatic hammer assembly including a cylinder in which a piston reciprocates for repeated impact against an anvil or blade holder which is rotatably received within an end of the cylinder and carries a scraping blade. The anvil has an annular flange which stops its insertion in the cylinder, and is retained in place by a nut threadedly engaged with the cylinder and having an end wall spaced from the cylinder end a distance slightly greater than the flange thickness to permit reciprocation of the anvil. Exhaust air passes along a groove in the outer surface of the cylinder to an annular chamber in the nut and thence through four exhaust ports exiting at the end wall of the nut. A plug portion of the anvil projects through a central opening in the nut end wall and is received into a socket in a blade housing. Blade fingers project laterally into the socket.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1997Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Assignee: Snap-on Tools CompanyInventors: Robert L. Hartman, Roger A. Koessl
