Abstract: A compound action snips includes a pair of handles mutually connected at a handle pivot and a pair of cutting blades connected to the handles. The blades each having a proximal end attached to a distal portion of one of the handles, and the blades are mutually connected at a blade pivot, so that converging movement of the handles causes converging movement of the blades. The blades have a cutting length in a range of 2.5 to 3.5 inches and a functional handle length of about 5.8 inches. The snips have a ratio of cutting length to overall snips length in a range of about 0.24 to 0.33, and a ratio of cutting length to handle length in a range of about 0.4 to 0.6. In addition, the ratio of the cutting length to the angular range of motion of the handles is in the range of about 0.05 to 0.09 inches/degree for a handle range of movement of 40.degree. to 50.degree..

  • Patent number: 5290186
Abstract: A poultry processing device having a pair of substantially flat cooperating side-by-side thin blade-mounting members with a pair of cooperating blades mounted upon and extending forwardly in angled relation from the forward portions thereof, and secured at their rear portions by a transverse pivot pin. An adjustable spring member encircles the pivot pin and has opposite end portions each secured to a different one of the mounting members to urge the blades toward open position. A shiftable pin connects one end of the spring to one of the mounting members and shifts between a variety of positions along the length of one end portion of the spring to vary its torque. The lower blade extends downwardly at about a 45.degree. angle and is longer than the upper blade to compensate for the slicing action of the upper blade which results from the location of the pivot pin.

  • Patent number: 5263254
Abstract: In garden shears the locking device which holds the shear grips in closed position against the force of an opening spring is developed as a slide grip which lies free both on the top and on the bottom of the one hand grip so that this slide can be actuated by the thumb of both the right hand and the left hand without it being necessary also to use the other hand. The slide grip has spring detents which cooperate with indentations in said one hand grip.

  • Patent number: 4967475
Abstract: An improved all-way offset snips with full width wire cutter has bosses through which first and second blade members are pivotably connected for rotation about an axis perpendicular to the pivot bosses. The blade members have extended offset cutting surfaces with respect to the pivot bosses to permit the cutting of irregular shapes, particularly sharp curves and especially small circles, including opposing circles of about 2.0" to 2.5" diameters. The cutting surfaces are rotatable between an open position and a closed position for cutting the sheet material therebetween.
