    Abstract: A blade and assembly provides for a blade that has a front beveled cutting edge and at least two recesses defined within the back, or non-cutting edge, of the blade. A plurality of “T-shaped” legs is provided, each leg having a cross bar or “foot” that is secured at one end of a rod. In the preferred embodiment, three such legs are used, although the present invention is not limited to that number. The rod of each leg is used for insertion into a blade bore. Means for fixing the position of the rod within the blade bore is also provided. This allows the blade to be properly positioned within the holder thereby compensating for blade wear.

A second rod is in slidable engagement with the first rod by a key disposed in the keyway. The arrangement constrains the slidable rod to rectilinear motion along the first rod. At an extremity of the slidable rod proximal to the handle, the slidable rod is pivotally connected to the lever. By moving the lever an operator is able to move the slidable rod along the fixed rod. A replaceable, disposable jaw is releasably coupled to a distal extremity of the slidable rod and faces the end jaw of the first rod. The replaceable jaw is also guided by the keyway defined by the first rod.

    Abstract: A new composite cutting blade for a knife or other cutting instrument and a novel method of making the blade. The blade is formed from a body section made of a strong tough material formed with a dovetail configuration along one edge thereof and a cutting edge section made of a hard durable material that has a matching dovetail configuraion along one edge. The body and cutting edge sections are joined by press fitting the two dovetail edges together and then peening the joint. The blade is provided with a recess so that when the blade is rotated into the handle that includes a unique locking means, the blade is retained in a closed position. The handle includes a liner that has a spring finger which engages the tang of the blade to lock the blade in an open position. The spring finger also has a ball detent mounted thereon that engages the recess in the blade when the blade is in a closed position so as to retain the blade in a tightly closed position.

A replaceable blade knife of the cutting system has a cutting blade-gripping member with a bifurcated lower region extending throughout its length and dimensioned for resiliently gripping one of the long razor blades. The blades are placed within the blade-gripping member of the cutting knife by placing the heel end portion of the bifurcated region over the razor blade at this point and then angling downward so that the remainder of the bifurcated region resiliently grips the cutting blade throughout its entire length. The cutting blade-holding base also serves to store the knife with its cutting blade by insertion of the blade into an empty slot of the base.
