  • Publication number: 20140123505
Abstract: A can opener for cutting open a can lid has a body housing and a cutting blade. The cutting blade has a plurality of cutting teeth aligned along a circular perimeter inside said body housing. At least one first tooth has an internally facing projection for curling the cut lid. Preferably, the plurality of teeth extend around the perimeter to a spaced gap opposite the at least one first tooth with the projection. The plurality of cutting teeth are not aligned in a parallel plane relative to the lid during cutting. The cutting teeth having pointed ends arranged on an incline or curvature relative to the lid allowing for a progressive cutting of the lid with ease.

  • Patent number: 6971180
Abstract: A paint can channel perforating apparatus includes a perforating member, a stiffening brace and a plurality of perforating bits. The perforating bits are arranged normal to the plane defined by the perforating member. A protective housing may be adapted to enclose the perforating member and the rim of a paint can. The protective housing includes at least one cross member arranged parallel to the stiffening brace and a plurality of guides sized to accept and direct the stiffening brace linearly. A shaft may be fixedly attached to the stiffening brace and slideable relative to an orifice defined within one of at least one of the cross members. Further a spring may be positioned around the shaft and between a handle and the cross member to return the perforating bits to a rest position after the channel has been pierced by the perforating bits.

  • Patent number: 6237227
Abstract: An apparatus provides drain passages in an annular channel in the lip of a metal container for fluids. A metal or plastic support is shaped as an annular ring. Each punch of a plurality of metal punches has a corresponding base and point. The base of each punch is integrally connected to a front face of the support such that each point projects perpendicularly to the front face and in a common direction parallel to an axis of the annular ring. The punches are spaced so that each point can be aligned simultaneously with the annular channel of the metal can. The rear face of the support comprises a surface for driving the punches through the annular channel and creating fluid drain passages in the channel. The support can comprise a spoke-configuration having spokes extending from a hub. The base of each punch is integrally connected to extend from a corresponding spoke.

  • Patent number: 4807367
Abstract: A tool for cutting the ends from spent cans of paint, solvents, or coatings so that the can wall can be easily flattened to facilitate disposal. The tool includes a handle having a hand grip on one end and a cutting head on the other end. The cutting head presents a special circular cutting blade having two sharp points and a tapered configuration between the points and a pair of valleys. A weighted sleeve which slides on the handle applies a driving force to the cutting head, causing the sharp points to pierce the can end followed by slicing action from the remainder of the cutting edge to cleanly sever the end of the can.

  • Patent number: 4796361
Abstract: A can opener has an elongated rectangular base plate on which a can support box is centrally mounted. Four right angle corner rails extend upwardly from corners of the support box. The rails are connected by side support braces which form a square around midpoints of the corner rails. A top guide plate is secured to upper ends of the corner rails. A pair of slide bearings in the top guide plate mount a pair of slide rods. A transversely extending cross bar is secured to upper ends of the slide rods. The cross bar has a handle grip at each end. A blade mounting plate is secured to the lower ends of the slide rods. Four triangular tempered steel blades are secured to the side edges of the blade mounting plate. The blades extend perpendicularly downwardly from the blade mounting plate. L-shaped side support rods extend from opposite sides of the base plate to the side support braces. A pair of coiled springs extend between the transverse cross bar and the side support rods.

  • Patent number: 4684038
Abstract: Device for tapping containers filled with liquid, in particular, tin cans filled with beer, with a mounting for fixing the device relative to the container, with a tubular piercing member sharpened at the front which penetrates the wall of the container, with a tap arranged on the tubular piercing member, and with a sealing collar enclosing the tubular piercing member and abutting against the container wall. The tubular piercing member is immovably connected to the mounting, and, when the latter is positioned on the container, penetrates the container wall. The sealing collar protrudes beyond the cutting rim of the tubular piercing member so that when the device is fixed on the container, the sealing collar abuts against it sealingly before the tubular piercing member penetrates the container wall.
