Patent number: 5199173Abstract: A safety razor which conforms to both concave and convex body surfaces and has a handle and a curved rotatable cartridge. Shaving blades are positioned on both sides of the curved cartridge, thus, both concave and convex accurate cutting edges are obtained in a single compact cartridge. The concave surface is used when shaving convex body surfaces. Rotating the cartridge 180 degrees exposes the convex cutting surface for shaving concave body surfaces. The cartridge is rotatably mounted to the handle and is held in either concave or convex shaving positions with detents. When the alternate shaving position is desired, the cartridge is rotated 180 degrees, either manually or remotely using a push button device within the handle, which is also disclosed. The correct angular relationship of the handle to the cutting surface of the cartridge is set and maintained for both concave and convex settings by means of the detents since the amount of rotation between the two shaving settings is 180 degrees.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1991Date of Patent: April 6, 1993Assignee: Hegemann Research CorporationInventors: Kenneth J. Patent number: 5092210Abstract: A disposable blade holder for use with an apparatus, such as a microtome which is employed in cutting thin sections of tissue and other materials for microscope viewing. The blade holder is removably mountable in a microtome and secured therein by clamps. The holder comprises a cover plate and a base with a pair of small steps slightly greater in height than the thickness of a disposable blade. When a portion of the cover plate, disposed inwardly of the steps and otherwise suspended between them, is subjected to a sufficiently large force directed toward the base, the cover plate is deflected slightly and presses against the blade holding it firmly. The greatest deflection of the cover plate occurs in its mid-section so that the cover plate comes into contact with the blade first before it can touch the remainder of the base. The same clamps used to secure the blade holder itself to the microtome also serve to keep the cover pressed against the blade.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1990Date of Patent: March 3, 1992Inventor: Klaus Dern

Patent number: 4208791Abstract: An arcuate razor head is shaped to conform to convex and concave body surfaces. Cutting edges are emplaced in inclined arcuate surfaces, one above the other. The inclined surfaces guide the cutting edges at an efficient cutting angle as the razor head is drawn over the surface of the body being shaved. The inclined surfaces intersect in a line removed from the location of the cutting edges. Both convex and concave arcuate cutting edges are immediately available to the user.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1979Date of Patent: June 24, 1980Inventor: Barbara J. Van Cleve

Patent number: 4103418Abstract: A manually-operated shaving device, for shaving skin areas during or incidental to surgical or cosmetic treatment. The device comprises a generally wheel-shaped shaving body, the rim of which carries a plurality of shaving edges. A handle means is rigidly secured to the wheel and extends outwardly in alignment with the wheel axis, to thereby enable oscillating clockwise and counterclockwise rotation of the wheel by operator manipulation of the handle means. A support member is secured to the side of the wheel opposite the handle means, and extends a short distance from the wheel in alignment with the said wheel axis. The member includes a smooth concavity at its distal end for receiving the finger tip of the hand of the operator which is opposed to that manipulating the handle means. The contacting finger serves as a pivotal support during rotation and orientation of the shaving body with respect to the skin area being treated.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1977Date of Patent: August 1, 1978Inventor: Marcial Alvarez
