Abstract: The present disclosure relates to power system sensitivities as computed from power flow parameters and control parameters of a Power Flow Control Device (PFC). To this end, control parameter variations are applied to or generated by a PFC, and comprise variations in a control input u, a control effort e (injected series voltage, inserted series reactance), or a control effect q (power flow, active power transfer, phase-shift, current). A power flow response measuring unit measures a variation of a power flow response such as current, active or apparent power, in a way sufficiently synchronized with the control parameter variation to allow establishing an unambiguous causal relationship or correspondence in the form of a power system sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 6150926
Abstract: A vehicle security system includes a first housing for positioning adjacent the front windshield area of the vehicle, and an antenna carried by the first housing for receiving signals from the at least one remote transmitter. The security system also includes a security controller positioned in spaced apart relation from the first housing and being operatively connected to the antenna to be responsive to signals from the remote transmitter. Moreover, an indicator is preferably carried by the first housing, and is driven by the security controller for a number of significant purposes. In one embodiment of the invention, the indicator is preferably an alphanumeric indicator. The indicator may be used to display a number of remote transmitters capable of operating the security controller. The system may also include a coded override feature for switching to the disarmed mode from the armed mode responsive to operation of the control switch in a predetermined pattern based upon a plurality of user override codes.

  • Patent number: 6147598
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a vehicle theft alarm using a handheld computing device. A handheld computing device is disclosed that includes an image capture device, a location determination system and a communication device. The handheld computing device can be used for capturing images and transmitting images to other locations via the communication device. The handheld computing device also includes a position determining system for determining position of the vehicle. The handheld computing device can be located within a vehicle and the alarm system activated such that, upon the occurrence of an alarm triggering event, the image capture device captures images of the driver's compartment of the vehicle and the location determination system determines the location of the vehicle. The captured images and the determined location are transmitted through the communication device to a designated remote location.

  • Patent number: 6144112
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for a motor vehicle security system relating to immobilizing and enabling of a fuel pump for a motor vehicle engine. The system comprises data input means for receiving driver verification data, an engine control unit (ECU) including an ECU processor for controlling engine operation, a pump control unit (PCU) including a PCU processor for controlling the fuel pump, the PCU being separate from the ECU and integrally housed with the fuel pump. Communication links permit communication between the data input means and ECU, and between the ECU and PCU. The ECU processor is activated to control the PCU when valid driver verification data is received. The PCU processor is then activated to communicate a challenge code to the ECU. The ECU and PCU processors then compute respectively a first and a second response code associated with the challenge code.

  • Patent number: 6144293
Abstract: A security device (2) of a security system which a user can unlock by means of a transmitter unit (1) normally can also be unlocked by unauthorized users utilizing the transmitter unit (1). The new procedure acording to the invention is to allow only authorized users to access the object (4) to be secured by means of a security system, even in the event of the transmitter unit (1) being lost or stolen. To this end, the transmitter unit (1) will generate an identification signal (3) characterizing the user, by means of a detector (10) scanning the user's own physical features, preferably a finger print. This identification signal (3) will then be transmitted to the security device (2). This security device can then be unlocked only if there is a match between the identification signal (3) and a stored identification signal provided by a user authorized to unlock the security device.

Abstract: In a current interrupter for a battery lead for motor vehicles, with a contact element between the two connecting parts for their electrical connection and with an auxiliary drive for separating the two connecting parts, contact element applies only a transverse force that is directed essentially perpendicularly to the connecting parts. A retaining force which is directed opposite to the action of the auxiliary drive is mainly applied at one point and is spatially separated from the contact element.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus (10) for selectively enabling or disabling an actuatable vehicle occupant protection device (18). The apparatus (10) includes a cylindrical housing (80) having an inner sidewall portion (88), which has an annular ledge (90) adjacent the first end (82). A locking rib (102) extends axially a predetermined distance from the ledge (90) toward the second end (84) of the housing (80). The inner sidewall portion (88) has a pair of spaced apart locking channels (104 and 106) along opposed sides of the locking rib (102). An elongated shaft member (40) is disposed within and rotatable relative to the housing (80). The shaft member (40) has at least one slot (50) extending axially from a first end (42) portion of the shaft member (40). A blade member (56) is disposed within and axially movable relative to the shaft member (40). The blade member (56) has at least one arm (60) extending radially through the slot (50) and into one of the locking channels (104 or 106).

Abstract: Described herein is an in-dash automotive accessory having a detachable faceplate with a keypad and a medium resolution color graphics display. The graphic display has a rectangular array of addressable pixels. A serial interface is used to transfer data to and from the faceplate. Although the serial interface has a clock rate of only 7.5 MHz, it allows refreshing of a 64.times.256 pixel display panel at a 70 Hz pixel refresh rate. This is accomplished through a variety of techniques, including the use of efficient command code protocol, by packing or compressing pixel intensity data, and by double buffering incoming control messages.

  • Patent number: 6130604
Abstract: To prevent the engine from becoming able to be started by a cut-off of the communication line, for example, an engine control ECU 20 contains a reference code which is used to compare with a personal ID code transmitted from a transponder 12 of a key 10. A key insertion detecting switch 22 start this comparison when the insertion of the key is detected, and finishes the comparison before the engine is started. When a trouble of the key insertion detecting switch 22 is detected, a code collating section 20b collates the ID code with a reference code until the number of revolutions of the engine 30 exceeds 500 rpm. Therefore, even when the key insertion detecting switch 22 becomes out of order, it is possible to recognize the operation with a correct key, and give a permission to start the engine 30.
