  • Patent number: 10256622
Abstract: To provide a dc interruption apparatus requiring no circuit for producing current zero point forcibly and having a simplified construction adequate for cost reduction, one end of a main contact 30a, 30b, 30c for each phase of a dc high speed vacuum circuit breaker 30 is connected with a positive output end of a corresponding phase of a rectifier 20 for converting ac power to dc power with semiconductor devices arranged in a bridge. The other ends of the main contacts 30a, 30b, 30c are connected together to form a positive side output line 40. A pulse-shaped current flows in an arm of each phase of the rectifier 20 and the current is commutated among the arms sequentially, so that the current is reduced to zero after the commutation. Each of main contacts 30a, 30b, 30c of dc high speed vacuum circuit breaker 30 interrupts the current reduced to zero by the commutation, so that the interruption is easier.

The apparatus also includes a set reset flip-flop having a set input adapted to receive the first and second binary signals to provide a third binary signal. The third binary signal indicates loss of a current transformer connection when the set input is asserted and indicates no loss of a current transformer connection when the reset input is asserted.

Abstract: In methods and circuits for using associated circuitry to enhance performance of a micro-electromechanical switch, one of the method embodiments is a contact conditioning process including applying a time-varying voltage to the control element of a closed switch. In another embodiment, a voltage profile applied to the control element of the switch can be tailored to improve the actuation speed or reliability of the switch. In another method embodiment, the performance of a switch may be evaluated by measuring a performance parameter, and corrective action initiated if the switch performance is determined to need improvement. An embodiment of a circuit for maintaining performance of a micro-electromechanical switch includes first and second signal line nodes, sensing circuitry coupled to the signal line nodes and adapted to sense a performance parameter value of the switch, and control circuitry operably coupled to at least one terminal of the switch.

Abstract: A device for providing electrical power that includes one or more single pin outlets and one or more switches, each of the switches coupled to a respective one of the one or more single pin outlets. The at least one switch is actuatable by insertion of a pin in the single pin outlet. The device also includes a current device coupled to the one or more switches and configured to prevent the flow of electrical current to the single pin outlets unless all of the switches are actuated. • Patent number: 6995482
Abstract: A method for providing a current path during switching transitions of a switching circuit while limiting the short circuit current. In one embodiment, a switching circuit includes a passive break-before-make element in series with two switches. An alternate embodiment includes a make-before-break element in parallel with the switches. The passive break-before-make element, or make-before-break element, provides a high impedance in a short term and a low impedance in a long term. The switching circuit may be coupled to a load through a low pass filter. In one embodiment, the switching circuit is used in a switching audio amplifier circuit, where correction of nonlinearities incorporates analog feedback to modify the duty ratio of a digitally generated switching signal in the analog domain.

  • Patent number: 6946752
Abstract: An input power stabilizing circuit, adapted to be disposed between a DC power source and a load to which DC power from the source is to be supplied. Voltage on a capacitor in the input power stabilizing circuit is prevented as much as possible from causing reverse current to flow when the DC power source develops a short circuit momentarily. A current detecting unit detects reverse current from the capacitor in an input power supply line, and a current interrupting unit interrupts a current line connecting the load with the DC power source. When reverse current flow is detected, the current line is interrupted by the current detecting unit and the current interrupting unit. The reverse current from the capacitor is held to a minimum value in the input power stabilizing circuit.

Abstract: An electromechanical switching device ensures automatic selected polarity interconnection between terminals of two power sources. A double pole double throw (DPDT) switch has three pairs of contacts. A first pair of leads connect to two pairs of contacts in a manner that reverses polarity when switched, while a second pair of leads connect to the other pair of contacts. A switch controller employs a plurality of coils in electrical communication with the two pairs of leads. The coils are arranged and configured so that, when the two pairs of leads are connected to the respective power sources, the coils cause an actuator to move the switch automatically into the correct polarity state regardless of the connections of the leads. The invention is described as a battery jumper cable and to automatically connect like terminals of a pair of batteries. The invention encompasses the method of this device.
