  • Patent number: 8941269
Abstract: A power transfer device for connecting an electrical load to a power supply is disclosed. The power transfer device monitors the operating status of the power supply. Upon loss of power at the power supply, the power transfer device opens a switch between the power supply and the electrical load. When power is restored, the power transfer device executes a delay time module. After the delay time module has timed out, the power transfer device closes the switch to reconnect the power supply and the electrical load. Power transfer devices may be supplied to each of multiple loads connected to a power supply. By setting the time delay period of each power transfer device to a different duration, the electrical transients resulting from reconnecting all of the electrical loads to the power supply are reduced.

Abstract: An electrical switching topology for a hybrid switch provides extremely low losses in both cryogenic and non-cryogenic electronic systems. In this switch having switch modules connected in parallel, switching losses in a first module are separated from conduction losses in the parallel-connected second module. The conduction losses are then further reduced by cryogenically cooling the second module. Since the switching losses of the first module can be absorbed outside a cryogenic container, the switching losses do not add to the cryogenic heat load. In other applications, the switching module operates at lower temperatures to provide higher switching speeds and reduces switching heat generation.

Time programming of the timer is accomplished via presetting a length of sliding of the threaded member along the endless screw. The sliding threaded member causes a timely switching event of a device switch placed in the casing structure. The device switch, electrically connected to an external device, thereby activates the external device. The underwater electromechanical timer is activated via an activation mechanism that is externally exposed. Under an external pressure, the activation mechanism connects an output of the motor with the endless screw, and further turns on the motor. Resilient elements are further mounted between the motor and the endless screw and between the threaded member and the device switch to prevent undesired activation events.

  • Patent number: 6519208
Abstract: A locking timer assembly for controlling access time for a television, video game, or computer, employs a lockable enclosure box that attaches onto a wall outlet in place of the usual face plate. The volume inside the box encloses a standard 24-hour on-off timer. The box attaches to the outlet by the usual single screw. The cordset for the controlled device plugs into the timer, and then the cord exits the enclosure via a passage, such as a slit, but the slit does not permit passage of the plug. As an added safety feature, there can be a quick-disconnect plunger so that the timer device can be forced out (e.g., by wedge action) from the associated wall outlet. The plunger has a head portion extending outside the enclosure, and can be pushed in using the fingers. Once this is done, the timer cannot be plugged back in until the enclosure is unlocked and opened.

  • Patent number: 6483780
Abstract: Electrical timer modules that interact with one another so as to effect random operation of a plurality of electrical devices, creating the appearance that the devices are not operated automatically. The timer modules include circuitry that allows them to wake up from a sleep state or mode within a random time interval. Upon waking from the sleep state or mode, each modular timer initially senses for the presence of a transmitted signal. Upon receipt of a transmitted signal each module returns to its sleep state or mode. If no transmitted signal is received, the first timer module that wakes up transmits a signal to the other modules and activates an electrical device connected thereto.

  • Patent number: 6388854
Abstract: The present invention is a load balancing and distributing switch-on/turn-on control for a circuit breaker, an appliance, a device, or an apparatus wherein each switch-on device on a circuit breaker, appliance, device, or apparatus generates and provides a turn-on time delay up to a maximum turn-on time delay so that the turn-on times and respective loads after a power failure from all circuit breakers, appliances, devices, and/or apparatuses are distributed and/or balanced over a turn-on period. The present invention distributes and balances the load and consumption by various appliances, devices, and apparatuses at the time of initial power up after a power failure. The present invention also distributes the turn-on times of the various appliances, devices, and apparatuses at the initial power up time. A circuit system and method for load balancing and distributing switch-on control of an operating device.

Abstract: A time control unit having both a time base dial that allows the user to set the cycle time duration and a duty cycle dial that allows the user to set the percentage of time a load connected to the time control unit in activated during each cycle time. The time base dial includes a series of discrete time base settings that increase non-linearly from a minimum setting to a maximum setting. The duty cycle dial also includes a series of discrete duty cycle settings ranging between a maximum and a minimum duty cycle value. The amount of increase in the percentage of the cycle time between successive duty cycle settings is smaller near the minimum (0%) and maximum (100%) settings and larger near the midpoint between the minimum and the maximum settings such that the duty cycle dial has greater resolution near the maximum and minimum settings.

  • Patent number: 6268775
Abstract: An electronic delay circuit (10) useful for the delayed initiation of detonators illustrates several novel features that may be combined, including a novel oscillator (34), a programmable timer circuit (32) and a run control circuit (46). The oscillator (34) generates a clock signal determined by the rate of discharge of a capacitor (34a) relative to a reference voltage REF. A second capacitor (34b) is charged to a voltage that exceeds REF, and when the first capacitor (34a) falls below REF, an internal signal is generated and the capacitors are switched, so that the first capacitor gets charged while the second is discharged. A latch (34f) produces clock pulses in response to the internal signals. The programmable timer circuit (32) includes a ripple counter (38) and a program bank (40) that loads a count in the counter upon initialization.
