Patent number: 4368935Abstract: A vertical filing system is provided wherein documents are filed in the spaces between a plurality of filing bars contained in a cabinet by hanging the documents on pins extending through the bars and outwardly into the spaces. In the closed, filing position, the pins extending from any one bar extend into the space between bars and overlap the pins extending into the space from an adjacent bar. In the open position, any two adjacent filing bars are separated such that the oppositely coacting pins on adjacent bars do not overlap and documents can be either inserted and filed or removed therefrom. In a preferred embodiment, openings are provided in each filing bar through which pins from adjacent bars can extend, the preferred pin-opening sequence on the filing bars being pin-opening-opening, pin-opening-opening, and so on.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1980Date of Patent: January 18, 1983Assignee: United Filing CorporationInventor: David A. Patent number: 4320852Abstract: A top access cabinet (12) includes a cover (18) pivotably mounted thereto by a hinge and lever arrangement which permits the cover to pivot and slide with respect to the cabinet so that the cover can drop behind the rear wall of the cabinet when the cover is opened. Hinges (54) mount the cover (18) to the cabinet (12) along the rear wall (22) of the cabinet (12). Elongate slide members (60, 62) supported by the hinges (54) slidably mount channel members (56, 58) secured to the underside of the cover. Lever arms (32) disposed on each side of the cover (18) are mounted between the side walls (24, 26) of the cabinet and the cover. When the cover is raised, the lever arms (32) displace the cover (18) relative to the cabinet so that the channel (56, 58) members slide over the slide members (60, 62).Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1980Date of Patent: March 23, 1982Assignee: Herman Miller, Inc.Inventor: Preston Nagelkirk

Patent number: 4303284Abstract: A multipositionable index file guide means adapted to be supported from laterally spaced support means for vertical filing of sheet material. In one example, the multipositionable index guide comprises a strip element having a longitudinal axis and longitudinal edge portions, each edge portion having a tab extending laterally with respect to the longitudinal axis and longitudinally offset with respect to the tab on the opposite edge portion. The strip element may be turned about its longitudinal axis for obtaining two tab upward positions in offset relation and may be turned about its lateral axis for obtaining a third upward position of one of said tabs. In another example, the index guide strip element includes a tab extending laterally from each longitudinal edge portion and in longitudinal offset relation, the strip element being adapted to be turned about its longitudinal axis to locate a tab in one of two upward positions.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1980Date of Patent: December 1, 1981Assignee: Plan Hold CorporationInventor: Sigurd A.
