These slots provide for the recirculation of moist air around and through each individual product. The humidor of the present invention consists of a plurality of such product-containing trays stacked and spaced vertically in a suitable case, including means for removal of the trays for insertion or removal of product. Space for moist air circulation is also provided around each sliding tray. The humidor of the present invention also contains a source of moisture and humidity sensing means.

Abstract: A humidifier for use in humidors includes a fill chamber, an emission chamber having at least one absorbent body therein, at least one opening in the top of the emission chamber for diffusing water vapor therethrough, and an adjustment apparatus for adjusting and controlling the amount of water vapor entering the humidor through the opening. Absorbent bodies are preferably separated by at least one channel. The channel extends along the lengths of the absorbent bodies to increase the rate at which the absorbent bodies absorb water. The channel separates the absorbent bodies into separate elements. The humidifier comprises a housing defining a receptacle having an internal void volume for receiving material. The volume of the absorbent bodies, in combination, preferably comprises from about 35% to about 70%, and most preferably from about 40% to about 50% of the internal void volume of the receptacle.

Abstract: The present invention provides humidifiers for use in maintaining tobacco at desired levels of humidity. The humidifier includes a humidifier tank having a reservoir chamber fluidly connected to a pair of evaporation chambers by a pair of capillary tubes having a fluid passageway. Evaporation media is contained within the evaporation chambers. A pair of shutters having shutter openings are adjustably mounted on the evaporation chambers to open and close front evaporation openings in the evaporation chambers. Rear evaporation openings are also provided on the evaporation chambers which are continuously open. The humidifying fluid evaporates from the evaporation media in the evaporation chambers through the front and rear evaporation openings to humidify the tobacco environment. A fluid level indicator on the humidifier permits the fluid level in the humidifier to be monitored and the humidifier to be refilled as needed.

Abstract: A cell culture incubator has a chamber divided into an incubation portion and a control portion. The incubation portion is adapted to contain a cell culture receptacle. A cell culture receptacle agitator is located in the control portion of the incubator and linkage between the cell culture receptacle agitator and the incubation portion of the chamber causes agitation of the cell culture receptacle. A heater in the control portion of the chamber heats air from the external environment and transports the heated air to the incubation portion of the chamber. A wall divides the chamber into the incubation portion and the control portion. The heater may be a forced air heater that provides a positive pressure to the incubation portion of the chamber to reduce contamination in the incubation portion. A nutrient and gas circulation system communicates with the cell culture receptacle in the incubation portion of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5934773
Abstract: A humidifier device including at least two housings, each housing containing an absorbent material. Each housing is designed as a stamped or molded cup-shaped member having rounded corners and a flanged edge, and a plurality of apertures. A flat, rectangular member is attached to the flanged edge, thereby creating a cavity between the flat, rectangular member and the cup-shaped member. The absorbent material is located within the cavity and is soaked with an evaporative solution for imparting moisture into the storage case by evaporation through the apertures in the housing. The humidifier device may be replenished by pouring solution through the apertures on the housings, or by immersing humidifier device in a bath of solution, thereby allowing the absorbent material to become replenished with solution. The housings are each provided with a magnet attached to the flat, rectangular member which can be used to mount the housing to a second magnet mounted on the interior of the storage case.

  • Patent number: 5741444
Abstract: A humidor and method for high humidity, ambient temperature storage of items includes a water reservoir with a relatively large surface area which is gradually and uniformly heated in response to a humidity sensor. The temperature in the reservoir is raised at a rate of less than 1 degree Fahrenheit per 4 minutes to a maintained temperature of less than 5 degrees F. above ambient temperature until a desired humidity level is reached. The humidor enclosure includes convection heating elements which create a convection current between air inlets and outlets to draw fresh air into the humidor. A water level sensor in the water reservoir deactivates the reservoir heater and convection heating elements when the water level drops below a minimum level and simultaneously actives a water level low warning signal.
