    Abstract: An electron gun of the type having an electron emitter for emitting electrons, including an electrostatic lens and a magnetic lens formed by pole pieces with a winding coil disposed between the magnetic pole pieces. The magnetic lens forms a rotationally symmetrical magnetic field in a gap formed by the pole pieces. The magnetic field forms the magnetic lens and focuses the electrons emitted from the emitter. A vacuum tube separates the electron gun from the magnetic lens. The electron gun is sealed in a vacuum by the vacuum tube and the magnetic lens is shielded in air.

    Abstract: A compensation device for convergence drift used in a CRT, including a convergence electrode attached on an outer surface of a neck portion, an inducement means for inducing static electricity from a voltage to be supplied for an inner graphite layer, and a connecting member formed between the convergence electrode and the inducement means to supply high potential from the inducement means to the convergence electrode. As the convergence electrode provides high potential generated from the inducement means to the neck portion, the compensation device decreases the potential difference between grid electrodes and the neck portion. Thus, the compensation device makes the electric fields, which cause the charges to be accumulated, to weaken so that the convergence drift is effectively reduced.

A continuously unidirectional restricting means prevents the plunger from withdrawing from the funnel portion of the cathode ray tube. A release cylinder, which is coaxial with the sleeve and plunger, releases the unidirectional means, which may be an internally toothed washer, in order to provide capability for readjustment.

The magnetic ring pair includes an inlet ring magnet facing the CRT's base and an outlet ring magnet facing the CRT's faceplate, with the inlet ring magnet having a thickness greater than that of the outlet ring magnet along the CRT's longitudinal axis. The inlet ring magnet thus exerts a larger off-axis force on the electron beam than the outlet ring magnet because of the longer beam path in the inlet ring magnet to permit the magnetic ring pair to apply a maximum convergence correction for substantially misconverged electron beams and a minimum convergence correction when the beams are in convergence.

A video signal source is connected to a carrier generator having an output connected to an input of a phase shifter. The phase shifter has its outputs connected to the deflecting plates to rotate the cross-section of the electron beam in a plane drawn perpendicularly with respect to the optical axis. The apparatus has a control unit having an input connected to the pickup and an output connected to the electromagnetic control system.

With other kinds of CRT's, the elements are formed either on an interior supporting member or on the interior surface of the display medium. In one embodiment, the elements are formed of a phosphorescent material. In other embodiments, the elements are formed of materials capable of producing, upon excitation by a scanning electron beam, signals of visual or electrical character. The signals thus produced may be employed in a closed-loop correction system to accomplish automatic convergence and/or geometric adjustment of a displayed image.

    Abstract: In a picture display tubes having deflection angles of 110.degree. and more the conical central part near the transition to the neck has a substantially flat variation perpendicular to the tube axis. As a result of this an accurate positioning of the deflection device on the display tube is seriously hampered. This problem is solved by centering members which are present on the conical central part and which cooperate in a self-centering manner with centering members forming part of the supporting cage of the deflection device. The position of the deflection device in the axial direction is accurately fixed by abutment members forming part of the supporting cage in co-operation with abutment surfaces forming part of the envelope of the tube.
