  • Patent number: 5430356
Abstract: A lighting control system is adapted to dim a plurality of groups of light sources in a room to any one of a number of different preset levels to achieve a like number of different lighting scenes. Each group of light sources defines a lighting zone of the same type of light source, for example, incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, neon lights, etc. The system includes a plurality of dimmers for adjusting the respective light levels of the different lighting zones, and a display panel for displaying the instantaneous light level of each zone. According to the invention, a suitably programmed microprocessor or the like operates to normalize the system's dimming performance for a plurality of different types of light sources so that a given change in dimmer setting produces the same change in perceived light level from each of the different types of light sources.

  • Patent number: 5381074
Abstract: A lighting control system with self calibration for employing the entire physical travelling range of a dimmer switch. A lookup table and linear interpolation are used in conjunction with the voltage output of the dimmer switch in order to identify the appropriate duty cycle of a Pulse Width Modulated signal which drives the lamps in the system. Two of the values in the lookup table are default minimum and maximum values of voltage which can be expected from a worst case switch device. The system dynamically determines and stores any new maximum or minimum voltage which is received from the dimmer switch. These dynamically determined minimum and maximum values are used to replace the default values in the lookup table thus calibrating the lookup table. The calibrated lookup will take into account the operating parameters of the actual switch in the vehicle and will therefore always produce a corresponding change in illumination intensity over the entire physical range of the dimmer switch.

  • Patent number: 4825130
Abstract: An electronic dispatch board for use with a voice message recording-playback machine. The dispatch board lights certain lamps responsive to signals sent from the message recording-playback machine when a message has been placed in a certain voice mailbox. The dispatch board is comprised of a serial-to-parallel converter, a board address comparator, an address signal verifier, a lamp driver, and a plurality of lamps. The address signal verifier determines if a valid address signal has been received from the message recording machine. • Patent number: 4792731
Abstract: A multi-room controller for controlling a plurality of individual light controls, each associated with a room of a partitionable space. The individual light controls each control the light individually in the control's room. An assignment panel associated with the multi-room controller is operable to link several individual light controls in a group under the control of a selected individual control within the group. This linking occurs when several rooms have been combined into a larger room and it is desirable to have uniform control of the lighting within the larger room. The multi-room controller is in communication with each individual light control and responsive to the assignment panel for transferring control of the group to the selected individual light control. In one operation mode, the lighting is controlled by a preselected individual control. In another mode, the lighting is controlled by any of the linked controls in the group. All linked controls mimic the last activated control.

  • Patent number: 4766353
Abstract: A lamp switching circuit and method for selectively energizing one or more lamps of a bank of lamps and thereafter energizing other of the lamps when power is interrupted and next applied. The lamp switching circuit and method is also effective in selectively and sequentially operating one or more ballasts in a group of ballasts which, in turn, operate one or more lamps in a circuit arrangement. The lamps with which the present invention is used are typically phosphor excitable lamps, such as flourescent lamps. In this way, power consumption is reduced, even through lumen output is correspondingly reduced. However, by selectively and sequentially energizing only certain of the lamps in a circuit arrangement, the overall life of the lamps is materially increased. Moreover, the lamps will operate with the same degree of efficiency as they would operate if all lamps connected to a ballast were operating.
