Patent number: 7385310Abstract: The invention relates to the supply of lamps (8?, 8??) of at least two different lamp types, of which a first lamp type (8??) has a wattage which is approximately a whole multiple of the wattage of a second lamp type (8?), whereby the same ballast devices (1) are used, embodied for the direct supply of the second lamp type (8?) and which may be operated in parallel for the supply of the first lamp type (8??). The correct connection of a suitable lamp (8?, 8?, 8??) to the ballast device (1) is monitored by means of a signal exchange between ballast device (1) and lamps (8?, 8?, 8??) before switching on the supply line of the ballast device (1).Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2002Date of Patent: June 10, 2008Assignee: B&S Elektronische Geräte GmbHInventors: Wilfried Brauckmann, Ulrich Klipstein

Publication number: 20080129215Abstract: The present invention provides a system for controlling one or more operating unites in an inductive power transfer (IPT) system. Each operating unit includes a pick-up coil that takes power from a primary conductor or track over an air gap. The operating unit is controlled by frequency modulating the primary conductor power supply to send a control instruction which is decoded by the operating unit. The instruction is decoded by generating a signal using a local oscillator in the operating unit and using the signal to detect changes in the frequency of the current in the primary conductor. Such a system can be used, for example, to control inductively powered road-studs that include a light source for controlling traffic on a roadway. A narrow band modulated data transmission system and method for controlling an operating unit are also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2004Publication date: June 5, 2008Applicant: Auckland Uniservices LimitedInventor: John Talbot Boys

Patent number: 7375984Abstract: A power converter circuit includes an input switching circuit, an isolation circuit, a rectifier circuit that includes a least a pair of rectifiers, and an output circuit. The input switching circuit receives a first voltage and generates an AC voltage. The isolation circuit has a primary side configured to receive the AC voltage from the input switching circuit and a secondary side. The secondary side communicates with the rectifier circuit and the output circuit. The output circuit includes a secondary inductor and a diode. The secondary inductor communicates with a primary inductor and either the rectifier circuit or the secondary side. The diode communicates with the primary inductor, the secondary inductor, and the rectifier circuit. The secondary inductor inhibits current flow through the rectifier circuit and forces current flow through the diode when no voltage is applied to the primary side of the isolation circuit.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2006Date of Patent: May 20, 2008Assignee: ASTEC Custom Power (HK) Ltd.Inventor: Steve Lee Tai Keung
