Abstract: An electronic device for simulating load currents when testing a tow-vehicle brake controller is described. The electronic device utilizes current monitoring circuitry to measure a current of an input signal from the tow vehicle. The electronic device also includes a series of resistors that are arranged in parallel on the input signal as wells a series of switches (e.g., relays or transistors) that can activate and deactivate each one of the resistors. Microcontroller circuitry within the electronic device controls the series of switches based on the measured current of the input signal, and, by extension, controls the series of resistors applied to the input signal. In so doing, the electronic device is able to simulate a desired load current on the tow-vehicle brake controller being tested.

  • Patent number: 11372038
Abstract: A system and methods for monitoring an impact of geomagnetic disturbances (GMDs) or an E3 component of electromagnetic pulses (EMP-E3), involving a transducer generating a transduced signal in response to a magnetic field of a current carrying element of a transmission line. The transduced signal reflects harmonic characteristics of the current carrying element, and is amplified and filtered, then digitally converted. Excessive impact is detected when a threshold condition is met with respect to a total harmonic distortion (THD) and/or a change in THD. The THD can be calculated from amplitudes of harmonic components of interest. The amplitudes can be calculated in various ways, including Fourier transforming the digital signal to locate peaks in the resulting spectral lines, or using a phase sensitive detection algorithm in which the digital signal is multiplied by a phase swept reference signal and then integrated.

Abstract: Receiver-consistent scalars of seismic receiver channels are used for time-lapse monitoring of a sub-surface earth formation. Signals are induced by seismic waves propagating through the earth formation adjacent to each respective seismic receiver channel. Each seismic receiver channel is acoustically coupled to the earth formation as present directly adjacent to the location of the seismic receiver channel in question. The base receiver-consistent scalars and the monitor receiver-consistent scalars of seismic receiver channels can be outputted to reveal changes in these receiver-consistent scalars. These changes can be used to delineate information about physical changes in the subsurface earth formation. The changes in the based receiver-consistent scalars and the monitor receiver-consistent scalars may be displayed visually.

Abstract: A method for estimating soil properties within a field using hyperspectral remotely sensed data is provided. In an embodiment, estimating soil properties may be accomplished using a server computer system that receives, via a network, soil spectrum data records that are used to predict soil properties for a specific geo-location. Within the server computer system a soil preprocessing module receives one or more soil spectrum data records that represent a mean soil spectrum of a specific geo-location of a specified area of land. The soil preprocessing module then removes interference signals from the soil spectrum data, creating a set of one or more spectral bands. By removing interference signals, the spectral bands are not erroneously skewed from effects such as baseline drift, particle deviation, and surface heterogeneity. A soil regression module inputs the one or more soil spectral bands and predicts soil property datasets.

Abstract: Various embodiments include apparatus and methods to provide a skin-effect correction. The skin-effect correction can be based on a pre-calculated correction coefficient library. In various embodiments, a skin-effect correction procedure can be applied that only uses a single-frequency R-signal measurement. In addition, an embodiment of a skin-effect correction procedure using a single-frequency R-signal measurement can be applied whenever the quality of the data from one of the multiple frequencies normally used in a multi-frequency method is reliable. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Abstract: A surveying system for surveying and tracking a movable target object that defines a target point includes a surveying device with a sighting unit defining a target axis and a detector for generating a continuously current amount-of-deviation signal dependent on a deviation from an optimal target orientation. A second unit on the target object side enables continuous determination of movements and/or positions of the target object with reference to an external coordinate system. The surveying system includes a target point tracking mode in which respective first measurement data currently generated by the first unit and the respective current amount-of-deviation signal and respective second measurement data currently generated by the second unit are continuously aggregated. On the basis thereof, a control signal is derived for continuous automatic motorized modification of the target axis orientation such that the target axis continuously aims at the target point.

Abstract: A system and method of sensing fluid in a wellbore, where fluid along a range of radial locations in the wellbore is diverted along a flow path that runs adjacent a fluid sensor. Diverting the fluid from the range of radial locations provides a representative sample of the fluid flowing in the wellbore. Further, the diverted fluid forms a continuous volumetric flow past the fluid sensor to avoid fluid stagnation adjacent the fluid sensor. Diverting the fluid flow can be accomplished by elongate diverter wings attached at discrete circumferential locations around an outer surface of a fluid sensor and that project at oblique angles to the direction of flow. Elongate members can be used for diverting flow, where the distal ends of the elongate members attach to a downhole tool, and vane members span across selected adjacent members for directing flow to the sensor.

Abstract: A display provides optimized situational awareness to firefighting command personnel within a wildfire theater. Lidar scanning data provides a digital elevation map of the wildfire theater for the display. Geographic features such as lakes, roads, power lines and structures can be overlaid on the display. Lidar data utilizing multiple reflection signatures can be interpreted to represent fuel density and/or canopy height and such information can also be included upon the display. A burn area and active fire edge can be sensed by infrared scanner data and overlaid upon the display. The display can be utilized for input of firefighting command instructions, such as in the form of vectors or other annotations placed upon the display and correlated with airborne firefighting resources to be dropped at designated locations.
