Abstract: The invention relates to an ignition device for igniting fuel in an internal combustion engine by generating a corona discharge, comprising an insulator which carries a center electrode, a coil attached to the center electrode, the coil being wound onto a bobbin and enclosed by a tube housing. According to the invention, the coil tapers toward the insulator.

Abstract: The method and apparatus of the present invention are useful for the monitoring of the electrical signals within an internal combustion spark plug circuit and the killing of a spark plug within that circuit. The invention essentially consists of connecting a transformer to the high voltage side of the spark plug circuit. Through the use of impedance and inductance, the present invention can either produce a low voltage replica of the waveform of the high voltage electrical signal which is directed to a spark plug or can effectively prohibit that spark plug from firing by short circuiting the low voltage side of the transformer of the device.

Abstract: A portable spark tester for a gas cooking appliance includes a housing having a non-conductive base assembly, and a plurality of electrical conductive cables each having a first end adapted to be attached to an ignition wire for a respective gas burner of the appliance, and a second end which is secured within the housing at a position spaced from a central electrode. This spaced relationship defines a spark gap across which an electrical charge can jump. In use, the spark tester provides a technician with the ability to correctly identify certain non-functioning components of a spark ignition system of the gas appliance.

Abstract: A spark ignition engine tester for inserting between pairs of normally interconnected releasable connectors in the high voltage portion of the engine's spark ignition system, as between a spark plug terminal and the corresponding wire from the distributor, and between the high voltage output terminal of the coil and the wire to the distributor. The tester includes first and second electrodes with adjacent ends separated by a visible spark gap and remote ends for connection to the ignition system high voltage portion. An insulator supports the two electrodes substantially at right angles to each other. A conductive coil spring sleeved over the remote end of an electrode inserts into or sleeves over the opposed releasable connector of the emission system high voltage portion.
Abstract: A device used to visually detect the presence of a spark in internal combustion engines employing one or more spark plugs without removing the spark plug from the engine block.
