  • Patent number: 10399218
Abstract: A motorized tool for scrubbing, buffing, and polishing. The tool has a motor within a housing powered by an electrical power supply to move a base member. Surface treatment material is selectively retained by the base member, potentially by a latching system, a sleeved surface treatment system, or hook and loop material. A water-resistant battery pack can be selectively engaged with the housing, such as through a mating engagement between a tubular projection from the battery pack in combination with an annular socket in the housing, in a substantially watertight manner to provide electrical power. A liquid retaining volume can be disposed within the motorized tool, such as partially within a handle and partially contiguous with a motor compartment of the housing, for retaining a volume of liquid. Liquid can be selectively emitted into or through a surface treatment pad through an exhaust tube.

  • Patent number: 10056749
Abstract: A wall plate bracket includes integral straight edges used to quickly, easily and precisely define an area on a wall where a wall opening for the bracket is to be cut. The integral straight edges are formed along a top or bottom edge and a side edge of a generally rectangular front face plate of the bracket. The front face plate is held against a wall, and an L-shaped line is drawn along the straight edges. The bracket is then rotated 180 degrees and the ends of the straight edges are aligned at the ends of the previously drawn line. Another L-shaped line is then made or drawn along the straight edges, resulting in the two drawn L-shaped lines together forming a proper rectangle defining the wall opening to be cut.

  • Patent number: 8910389
Abstract: A door leveling apparatus is configured for assisting in the cutting of a lower edge of a door to match a base angle of a base of a door frame. In the exemplary embodiment, a housing is removably engagable with a hinge of each of the door and door frame and provides a pivotally engaged leveling arm configured for selectively pivoting away from the housing toward the base of the door frame. A laser assembly is pivotally engaged with a distal end of the leveling arm and comprises a laser housing capable of selectively emitting a laser beam and an angle adjustment knob configured for selectively retaining the laser housing at a desired laser angle that matches the base angle. The apparatus may then be removably engaged with the hinge of the door so that the laser beam may project the line on which the door is to be cut.

  • Publication number: 20090229135
Abstract: The present invention is a special-pattern cutting tool for preparing mortises on the edges of wood door slabs and jambs to inset the various plates on standard door hardware. This wood-chisel type tool enables the finish carpenter to quickly cut an outline exactly matching the flat screw-plates that secure the hardware to the door-slab and jambs. The improvement is primarily the cut-pattern shape that incorporates a curved blade to match the rounded corners of said plates. Three variations of the tool comprise a set. Each one is intended to create an outline pattern matching the hinge plate, or the latch-bolt striker plate, or the latch-bolt/lock-bolt plunger plate according to the specifications of at least one manufacturer's door hardware products. Some industry standards do exist between manufacturers to enable competitive replacement of such hardware so the tools would be somewhat universal.

  • Patent number: 7299554
Abstract: A jig for face frame hinges may include a base and gripping members, wherein the jig may be secured to a frame member or a wall adapted to receive a hinge base plate and the hinge base plate may be abutted with a first hinge abutting edge of the jig. The gripping members may hold the jig in a selected position so that the hinge base may be abutted with the jig while fasteners are engaged through the base and into the frame member, or while holes are pre-drilled and fasteners engaged to mount the hinge base. The proper position may typically be with a second frame member abutting edge of the jig abutted with an adjacent adjoining frame member. Thus, the jig edges form stops for consistently and positively locating hinge bases of a face frame hinge at a predetermined distance from adjacent frame members.

After the mortise outline is cut into the edge of the door, the mortise outline cutter assembly is removed from the door. The mortise outline has a predetermined length. Then, a screw-controlled mortise cutter assembly is placed over the mortise outline on the edge of the door and over a portion of two sides of the door adjacent to the edge, wherein a portion of the screw-controlled mortise cutter assembly is placed in registration with the mortise outline. Then, a screw-controlled blade assembly is advanced in a plane parallel to the edge below the edge so that a blade edge, which is part of the screw-controlled blade assembly, cuts out a mortise from the edge of the door.

  • Patent number: 5433009
Abstract: The present invention is an adjustable router template suitable for use in forming a stepped recess in a door with the cutting tool of a router. The adjustable template includes a first or lower plate having a lower template opening providing the cutting tool with access to the surface of the door to be cut and a second or upper plate having at least one upper template opening through which the cutting tool is initially inserted to reach the lower opening. The upper opening is more restrictive than the lower opening in limiting the surface area of the door that can be cut by the router. The recess can be cut with a step by adjusting the distance between the first and second plates and adjusting the longitudinal orientation of the upper opening relative to the lower opening.

Abstract: This invention relates to a jointer which can be accurately positioned and firmly held to the mating members of a workpiece. The jointer, when used in conjunction with a series of removable templates, will properly guide a hand held router utilizing a variety of bits to cut the matching edges of the workpieces. The jointer can be positioned to cut matching joint configurations either across, or parallel to, the edge of the workpiece which when joined form, a variety of completed and matching joints. The joints which can be fabricated include, but are not limited to the following: through-dovetail joints of different configuration sizes, box joints, through-dovetail joints where the board thickness is greater than the bit cutting length, half blind through dovetail joints, in plane dovetail joints, sliding dovetail joints, mortice and tenon.

Abstract: A method for making dovetail joints connecting a pin board having a curved cross-section to a dovetail board having a curved edge. The method includes a method of cutting dovetails in the dovetail board by positioning a dovetail template defining a dovetail slot tangential to the curved edge of the dovetail board with the dovetail slot centered over a point on the curved edge which is closest to the template. The dovetail is cut by means of a router with a dovetail bit, and the procedure is repeated for all points on the curved edge at which a dovetail is desired. The method also includes a method of cutting pins on a pin board by positioning a pin template having a tapered router guide normal to a point on an arched edge of the pin board. The pin is cut by means of a router with a straight bit, and the procedure is repeated for all points on the arched edge at which a pin is desired.Modified dovetail and pin templates for use with the method for making curved dovetail joints are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5195730
Abstract: An improved positioning jig which includes two principal relatively flat members adapted for locking and unlocking engagement/disengagement with each other and which are normally urged apart in the unlocked condition by a pair of elongated spring-like members which separate the two principal relatively flat members. Each of the two members includes a mating set of teeth which are adapted for engagement with corresponding teeth on the other member and which permit adjustments in small discrete steps over an extended range. When it is desired to lock the two members together, a bi-directional cam clamp is rotated through about 90 degrees so as to impart a vertical camming force to the upper relatively flat member thereby forcing it downwardly in opposition to the spring bias until teeth of the upper member and those of the lower member are engaged thereby locking the members together in the desired relationship.

  • Patent number: 5139062
Abstract: According to the present invention, a method is provided for making joints having angles other than right angles. Also, according to the invention, thickness of wood to be cut and/or size of the router bits used with a particular setup of template and fence can be changed simply by use of shims, without need for readjusting the fence or screws connecting the templates to their corresponding fences. This adjustability now includes, as a novel feature, the ability to cut dovetail joints using pin boards in stock thicker than the length of a dovetail bit without having to use a fence in which a rabbeted shim is substituted for a straight shim. Additionally, a method of cutting box joints using a combination of a dovetail template and a pin router bit has been found.
