Abstract: The RAZOR TIP is a carpenter's pencil sharpening guide. It is designed to be used with a utility knife. Carpenter's pencils are traditionally flat, and wide in shape, making them difficult to sharpen by hand. The RAZOR TIP solves this problem. At the time of this patent application filing there was only one other similar type product available on the market. However, this pencil sharpener was only good for creating a round point on a carpenter's pencil. This defeats the purpose behind the design of the carpenter's pencil. It is designed to provide the user with a flat, and wide lead point which is less susceptible to damage when used on unfinished, and rough surfaces. The RAZOR TIP maintains the original shape of the lead point.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device that is hand held and independent of a drill, either hand held or powered by electricity. This device consists of a tubular housing with a turn screw plunger shaft and a scale for measurement in inches on one side and metric on the other side of a liner window opening on one side of said tubular housing The user selects the depth of the hole to be drilled, sets the turn screw to that depth as indicated on the outside scale. The leading end of a drill bit is then inserted in the receiving end opening in the tubular housing that is opposite to the turn screw plunger. Thereafter, a collar with a set screw is placed over the flat end of the bit and secured by the set screw to the bit at the receiving end wall of the device of the present invention. The bit, on which the set screw collar is secured, may then be inserted in any type of drill and when used will drill only to the depth of the collar as measured and set by the device of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 5134783
Abstract: A method of thread timing for a rotary shouldered connection is presented. A ring gage which has a first and second scribe line thereon is used to establish a male timed rotary connection of a first tool. The angular distance between the first and second scribe lines is the advance timing correction (ATC), i.e., the angular distance between hand tight face-up and full torque make-up of a rotary connection comprising the male timed rotary connection of the first tool and a female timed rotary connection of a second tool. The second scribe line (indicative of the ATC) is transferred onto the first tool. A pin gage which has a third scribe line thereon is used to establish the female connection of the second tool. The third scribe line on the pin gage corresponds to the first scribe line on the ring gage. The third scribe line is transferred onto the second tool. • Patent number: 4662075
Abstract: Apparatus and method for setting knife blade depth. The apparatus comprises a magnification device and a removable tray in operative engagement with a digital micrometer. The method comprises the steps of positioning the edge of the knife holder flush with a fixed vertical plane extending through a reticle axis within the magnification device, zeroing the micrometer, rotating the micrometer handle until the tray and edge of the knife holder have moved a predetermined distance away from the fixed plane, and adjusting the knife blade until the edge of the knife blade is flush with the fixed plane.

  • Patent number: 4656896
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for positioning a point belonging to the cutting zone of a tool in a digitally controlled lathe. The process consists of obtaining the image of the contact point of the tool cutting zone in a virtual relative mark with two perpendicular axes and then bringing about coincidence between the origin of the relative mark and the rotation axis of the tool holder capstan. The process then involves bringing about coincidence between the chosen contact point and the origin of the relative mark. The contact point is then made to coincide with the intersection point of the axes of an absolute fixed reference mark.Application to the regulation of the position of a tool in a digitally controlled lathe.

  • Patent number: 4574488
Abstract: An electro-mechanical gaging apparatus and method for measuring the diameter of gundrill bits that have been pointed and the cylindrical surface areas relieved to leave only the margin and the wear pad on the circumference. A V-block of about 100 degrees is used in combination with a dual segmented clamp and a gage probe for generating electrical signals which provide the necessary inputs for trigonometric calculation, e.g. by an electrical microprocessor, thereby providing the desired diameter measurement.

  • Patent number: 4532716
Abstract: A tool holder has on its lower end an inverted, frusto-conically shaped bearing surface which is releasably seated coaxially in a correspondingly shaped opening which is formed in the upper surface of a stationary support. Intermediate its ends the bore wall which defines the frusto-conically shaped opening in the support has therein a shallow, circumferential recess, which is connected through a port in the support with a supply of fluid under pressure. In use the lower end of the tool holder is held in the opening in the support solely by gravity; and a tool, which is mounted in the upper end of the holder, is positioned adjacent a conventional gauging device which can measure tooth height and tool runout. Fluid under pressure is supplied to the recess in an amount sufficient to cause the tool holder to be elevated slightly without breaking the seal between the recess and the frusto-conically shaped bearing surface on the tool holder, whereby the tool holder can then be readily rotated manually.

  • Patent number: 4531328
Abstract: A method for the precision sharpening of the cutting edges of a fluted milling tool having a cylindrical cutting head, and apparatus for positioning the milling tool during sharpening. The method involves supportively contacting the flutes with an abutment finger capable of adjustable movement in a path perpendicular to the axis of the tool, whereby the cutting edge is accurately presented to a grinding wheel. The apparatus provides means whereby the position of the abutment finger may be controlled to provide cutting edges of a predetermined angle for tools of various diameter.

  • Patent number: 4521971
Abstract: A measuring head for screw thread measuring machines which is capable of measuring threads of a piece to be measured which has an outer diameter with a measuring point and which may be of varied diameters within predetermined limits comprises a base plate which has a thruhole in its center, a plurality of straight support grooves. Feelers are arranged at spaced angular locations around the periphery of the hole and a centering disc is located within the hole as well as measuring elements which are similarly offset and clamping elements which are arranged at selected angular locations to engage the centering disc. The feelers and the measuring elements are carried in a measuring station which is movable along a groove which extends parallel to a straight line which intersects a measuring point on the diameter of the piece to be measured and the lowermost point of the piece at the location in which it intersects the vertical axis.

  • Patent number: 4433488
Abstract: This invention relates to a tool presetting gauge for adjusting the cutting edge of a tool fitted in a tool holder externally of a machine tool, or for measuring the position of the cutting edge. It comprises a gauge body with a support side and a bore parallel thereto for fixing the tool holder in a setting plane. The gauge body is provided with two surfaces which are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the support side. The distance between these two surfaces is equal to the distance between the support side and the axis of the bore and the setting plane, respectively. By setting the gauge body with one of the parallel surfaces on a table plate and applying the feeler of a dial gauge onto the other one of the two parallel surfaces the dial gauge can be set to zero. While the dial gauge is held stationary the gauge body is placed with its support side on the table plate, and by means of the feeler of the dial gauge it can be found out whether the tool is in the setting plane or must be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4380295
Abstract: Drills (35), vertically oriented in a row/column array in a drill block (31), are moved in the column direction across a slot (49) located at a loading station (41). As the drills in each partially or fully occupied row reach the slot and drop, drill block movement halts. Thereafter a vertically oriented turn-over tube (51) is moved in the row direction beneath the slot (49). When an occupied drill position is reached, the drill drops into the turn-over tube, tube row movement temporarily halts, and the tube is rotated. The drill slides out of the turn-over tube (51) and down the channel (59) of a measuring station (43) until it hits a movable stop (61). After drill diameter is measured by a pneumatically positioned LVDT (87) and overall drill length is measured by a pneumatically positioned linear potentiometer (69)/proximity detector (PX3) combination, the stop (61) is withdrawn and the drill enters a clamp (95), which grips the adapter shank of the drill.
