Plumb Line (i.e., Flexible, Line Suspended Plumb Bob) Patents (Class 33/392)
  • Patent number: 5481809
Abstract: A laser plumb bob uses a conventional blumb bob body, hollowed to include a laser device therein. The laser device is affixed within the plumb bob body to preclude relative movement therebetween, to ensure accuracy for the device. With the use of a laser to provide a plumb line of coherent light which beam does not spread, the plumb bob may be suspended from a relatively short line in order to dampen oscillations more quickly. Apparatus providing for use of the plumb bob by a single person is also disclosed, comprising an upper fixture from which the plumb bob is suspended, an extension arm, and a target. The target and upper fixture may be connected by a telescoping column, if desired. The upper fixture may include a wind shield or guard, if desired, so provide greater stability for the plumb bob. The apparatus allows a single person to check plumb lines for walls and the like, thus providing greater efficiency and economy in building construction.

  • Patent number: 5392522
Abstract: A plumb bob having a central body portion and at least three substantially identical webs extending outwardly from the body portion along respective radial axes. The angles separating each successive web must be equal to maintain vertical symmetry, and an even distribution of weight, with respect to a longitudinal axis extending centrally through the body portion. In addition, the webs uniformly and linearly taper in a decreasing manner from the top end to the bottom end of the body portion. This geometry permits a worker standing in vertically aligned position above the plumb bob to be able to clearly see both the bottom end of the plumb bob and the preexisting datum from which alignments are being made.

  • Patent number: 4204334
Abstract: A precision level, plumb and angle indicating device responsive to static gravity which has a hollow square frame provided with substantially equal parallel planar surfaces arranged with permanent magnet blocks embedded within each corner for abutting against a horizontal or vertical plane of an object, particularly a machine tool, for determining and/or orienting angles of inclination, as well as establishing level or plumb references to as close a tolerance as one sixtieth of an angular degree(minute). A circular plate or disk and a disk ring with indicia or graduations and corresponding numerals, adjustably disposed within an annular frame selectively rotatable about an opening at the front of said hollow square frame, cooperates with indicating pointers operatively affixed on shafts centrally located within the aforementioned circular plate or disk with degree graduations, and said disk ring displays minute graduations.
