  • Patent number: 9036454
Abstract: A rugged hand-held mobile computing device for a forester to collect and use dendrometric data from trees and tree stands is claimed. The device includes a processor which operates in connection with a memory, a user interface, a GPS receiver, a sound sensor capable of emitting an ultra-sonic pulse and a computer readable code embodied on the memory. The device communicates with a transponder by way of the ultra-sonic pulse emitted by the sound sensor. The transponder also emits an ultra-sonic pulse back to device. The device calculates the distance traveled based on the knowledge of the speed of the pulses. The memory, which also includes basic mapping software, uses the data to update a map in real time with the location of the trees and other information collected.

  • Patent number: 8919004
Abstract: The present application provides for feeler gauges. The feeler gauges include a plurality of elongate measuring leaves rotatably coupled on a common axis of rotation with an elongate housing. The leaves may be manually, selectively rotatable between a “home” position wherein the leaves are substantially aligned with the housing and an “extended” position wherein the leaves are spaced from the housing. The leaves may be relatively flexible and substantially flat such that they define a substantially constant thickness. One or more extended leaves may be used to measure the thickness of a clearance or gap. The gauges may be configured to detect, determine or measure the thickness of the leaves that are in the “home” position and/or the “extended” position, and thereby determine the total thickness of a clearance or gap measured by the extended leaves.

  • Patent number: 7578068
Abstract: A detecting apparatus includes a detecting plate, a controlling box, and an indicator installed on the detecting plate. A region is defined on one face of the detecting plate, for supporting a workpiece thereon, with an edge of the workpiece abutting against one side of the region. A first slot and a second slot are defined in the detecting plate on an opposite side of the region. The controlling box having a circuit board with a processor is installed on an opposite face of the detecting plate. Two light sensors are installed on the circuit board aligning with the first and second slots of the detecting plate respectively. The indicator is electrically connected with the light sensors and controlled by the processor, for showing whether the dimension of the workpiece is eligible, according to detection by the light sensors.

  • Patent number: 7398602
Abstract: Based on the proportion that exists between the length of a conductive material and its electrical resistance and using a Wheatstone bridge type circuit, with four resistances to which a given input voltage is applied, and when the bridge is in balance the output voltage is zero, consists of using as such resistances respective extension measurement bands, based on a grid (1) mounted on an electrically insulating support (2), in such a way that preferably two of said grids (1) are orientated in a principal direction of maximum deformation, whereas the other two (1?) are in a direction at right angle to the previous one, in such a way that the dimensional variations of said bands, determined by the increase or reduction in the dimensions of the tree or plant to be controlled, create an output voltage, positive or negative, which proportionally corresponds with said measurement increase or decrease.

  • Patent number: 6879653
Abstract: The diameter of a segment of a peripheral rod in a fuel assembly is measured between two successive spacer grids. A measuring tool is positioned at a level situated between the two successive spacer grids, the tool comprising two measuring fingers that are free to move relative to each other in a first horizontal direction and that are urged towards each other by a resilient return arrangement, and that extend in a second horizontal direction perpendicular to the first horizontal direction. The measuring fingers are moved in the second horizontal direction towards a rod so as to put two contact pieces of the measuring fingers into contact with two zones of the rod segment. The measuring fingers are moved in the vertical axial direction of the rod along its segment situated between the two spacer grids and an electromagnetic sensor is used to measure the distance between the measuring fingers in the first horizontal direction while the measuring fingers are being moved axially.

  • Patent number: 6822565
Abstract: A wireless gauge alert system including a near empty sensor, a near full sensor, a transmitter, a receiver, and an alert device used to monitor the fuel level status of a liquid fuel or pressure (vessel) tank having a measuring device with an output member and gauge. Upon detection of a predetermined near empty condition, the transmitter sends an encoded wireless alarm signal to the receiver. The alert device then generates a user notification signal. The receiver and alert device, which preferably comprise an LED, are held in a housing having a plug extending therefrom to mount the housing to an electrical socket in a high traffic area. An alternate alert system includes a receiver unit coupled with a computer that allows either the user or a vendor computer to monitor the status of the sensor and respond accordingly. Another alternate alert system includes multiple zone remote assemblies for installation on separate fuel tanks to be monitored.

  • Patent number: 6782677
Abstract: A tablet detecting system ascertains whether a tablet exists in a receiving hole of a loader unit used for a molding tablet supplying apparatus or, if exists, whether the tablet has a standard size, by using a mechanical contact manner. The tablet detecting system has a push rod, a contact head, an insulation plate, a conductive assembly and a control unit. The push rod is inserted into the receiving hole and moves upward just as high as the tablet. The contact head is formed on a top of the push rod and the insulation plate is located over the contact head. The conductive assembly is formed in the insulation plate and the control unit is electrically connected to the conductive assembly. When the tablet in the receiving hole has a standard size, the contact head mechanically touches the conductive assembly and gives electrical connection to the conductive assembly, and the control unit senses the electrical connection.

  • Patent number: 6438858
Abstract: An electronic feeler gauge and a method of using the same which provides an objective means of determining the width of a gap between two surfaces. The gauge comprises a measuring element which is insertable into the gap and an indicator coupled to the measuring element for automatically indicating when the gap has been set to a predetermined distance. The measuring element comprises two plates which act as an electrical switch in an electrical circuit. When the gap gauge is inserted into a gap of predetermined width, the plates press against each other and current from a power source lights up a light emitting diode. Conversely, when the plates are inserted into a gap that is too wide, the plates do not press against each. The circuit, therefore, is not complete, and the light emitting diode does not light up. Thus, this invention provides an objective, reliable means for confirming the width of a gap. The invention can be used for gaps of different widths by varying the thicknesses of the plates.
