Patent number: 8402670Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method to accurately scribe benchmarks into a tensile test sample bar. The apparatus includes a base having a planar surface allowing a tensile test sample bar to rest thereupon. The apparatus further includes a guide having two spaced apart edges separated by a predetermined width. The planar surface of the base further includes a plurality of grid lines to properly align the tensile test sample bar. The base further includes at least one securing member adapted to abut and secure the guide during scribing of the tensile test sample bar. The method includes the steps of aligning a tensile test sample bar on the planar surface having a plurality of grid lines and securing the tensile test sample bar on the planar surface by means of the securing members. The guide then provides for an accurate predetermined width of the spacing of the benchmarks scribed onto the tensile test sample bar.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2010Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Chilinski, Josephine A. Publication number: 20090277940Abstract: A golf ball carrier for marking or identifying golf balls. The carrier has coaxially aligned openings receiving opposing hemispheres of each golf ball. Each opening allows for marking of each corresponding pole of the golf ball. The golf ball functions as a wedge spreading apart the carrier during insertion and removal of the golf ball from its engaged position with the carrier. While the carrier engages the opposing hemispheres of the golf ball, the user is able to rapidly mark the corresponding poles of each golf ball with the desired markings. The carrier may hold the marked golf balls until desired by the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 9, 2008Publication date: November 12, 2009Inventor: Melvin Cook

Patent number: 6739065Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for use in marking a point on a wall where a fastener should be installed in order to hang an object at a desired location on the wall. A device according to the invention includes an elongate frame having an elongate slot. The frame is adapted to be positioned adjacent to a back surface of the object to be hung. The device further includes a ledge projecting from the frame. The ledge is adapted to be positioned in contact with a top surface of the object. The device also includes a carriage that is supported by the frame. The carriage is adapted for reciprocating movement along the slot. The device further includes a pin that is carried by the carriage. The pin terminates on a first end in a stylus that extends in a direction away from the back surface of the object when the frame is positioned adjacent thereto. The device also includes a plurality of hooks that are carried by the carriage. The hooks are disposed at predetermined distances below the stylus.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2002Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Inventors: Eric R. Hofmeister, Daniel R. Karon

Patent number: 5428899Abstract: A gauge for determining the position of a workpiece within a fitting. The gauge comprises a body portion having a reference plane, a wall spaced from the reference plane and a fitting-receiving assembly. A shaft receiving bore is provided in the body portion which extends inwardly from the reference plane to receive at least some of the fitting-receiving assembly. The fitting-receiving assembly has a fitting-receiving portion extending outwardly from the reference plane for receiving a fitting thereon. The fitting-receiving portion has an end spaced from the reference plane and is mounted for reciprocal movement within the shaft-receiving bore relative to the reference plane. A stop assembly is provided which is operatively associated with the fitting-receiving portion and is movable therewith. The stop assembly has stop means spaced inwardly from the end on the fitting-receiving portion. A marking bore is provided in the body portion which extends inwardly for the wall.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1994Date of Patent: July 4, 1995Assignee: Hoke IncorporatedInventors: Sergio Radossi, Gregory Byrne

Patent number: 5291663Abstract: A trim marking tool is disclosed which utilizes a plurality of pins located in a slot and movable therein such that the pins can be aligned to conform to measurements taken. The pins are locked into position and a sheet material is placed on a base of the tool with an upper member containing the pins then closed on a lower member such that the pins indent the sheet material for indicating that either bending or cutting is required. Once the tool is set for a particular style window or door, marking of numerous pieces of sheet material can proceed without resetting and pieces bent and cut accordingly.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1992Date of Patent: March 8, 1994Inventors: Frank Briglia, James Rioux

Patent number: 5129154Abstract: A device for marking a wall to indicate where to install an element, such as a nail, to mount an article, such as a picture, in a desired position on the wall. The device includes a rigid handle member interconnected by a pivoting assembly to the upper end of a rigid elongate suspension member. The lower end of the suspension member includes a wall-marking element, such as a sharpened pin, projecting perpendicularly from the rear side of the suspension member, and a catch engaging member directly aligned with the wall-marking element to engage, for example, a strand of wire located behind the picture. While the handle member is pivoted to a ready position out-of-line with the suspension member, the pivoting assembly maintains the rear side of the suspension member in vertically suspended position generally coplanar with the wall so that the pin is positioned properly for accurate marking. During marking a stabilizing mechanism immobilizes the upper portion of the picture.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1991Date of Patent: July 14, 1992Inventor: Richard M. Aydelott

Patent number: 4893776Abstract: A device for marking the location of a hanger for an item to be hung. An elongated element is provided for receiving an item to be hung. The element has a plunger received thereon with a marker associated with the plunger. Depression of the plunger moves the marker from a non-marking position to a marking position which is opposite the point of support of the item whereby with the item located on the elongated element and held adjacent the wall where the item is to be hung, depression of the plunger will move the marker into contact with the wall to mark the point where a hanger should be installed to later support the item at the same location on the wall where it was held.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1988Date of Patent: January 16, 1990Inventor: John F.
