  • Patent number: 6247242
Abstract: A movable member is slidably mounted on a fixed member so as to be moved in a predetermined direction, and a linear sensor is attached to the fixed member, a slider is slidably mounted on the linear sensor so as to be moved in the predetermine direction. A fixed rack is attached to the fixed member, and a movable rack is slidably mounted on the fixed member and connected to the movable member so as to be moved in the predetermined direction. A first gear is pivotally mounted on the slider and engaged with the fixed rack and movable rack.

  • Patent number: 5560118
Abstract: A linear position transducer (10) including a housing (12), a threaded stud (56) fixedly secured within the housing, a rotatable drum (26) thread-mounted on the threaded stud, a string (18) secured to the drum and extending from the housing, a torsion spring (80) attached to the drum providing retraction torque to the drum, a cantilever beam (28) having one end fixed to the housing and the other end biased against the drum, and a strain gauge (48) for measuring deflection-induced strain in the cantilever beam. The drum moves axially along the threaded stud as it rotates in response to linear movement of the string. As the drum moves axially, it deflects the cantilever beam, which deflection is detected by the strain gauge. The strain is proportional to the linear movement of the free end of the string.

  • Patent number: 5251498
Abstract: To solve the problem that the prior device has a difficulty in performing accurate measurement of weight or dimension of a work which is placed in a furnace, the invention provides a device for measuring the physical state of the work under high temperature conditions such as a sintering furnace, which comprises: a frame for holding a work; a base on which the frame is placed; a probe having an end portion disposed for relative movement between the work and the frame; a step motor for driving the probe so that the end portion of the probe moves between the work and the frame and also lifts the frame together with the work away from the base; a microcomputer which acts together with a magnetic scale and a load cell to send a control signal to the step motor, thereby detecting a displacement of the probe and a load imposed on the probe.

  • Patent number: 5174030
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the length or perimeter of an object has a main housing part provided with a main abutment and forming a main attachment location and a movable housing part provided with a movable abutment normally spaced longitudinally from the main abutment and with a movable location forming a guide. The movable part is longitudinally displaceable on the main housing part so as to displace the abutments longitudinally relative to each other and also to displace the locations longitudinally relative to each other. A flexible but substantially inextensible element has an outer end fixed to the main attachment location and an outer portion extending between the locations, passes through the guide at the movable location, has an intermediate portion guided in the movable part, and has an inner portion extending in the main portion and an inner end.

  • Patent number: 5154003
Abstract: A caliper has a pair of arms which are connected for rotation about a pivot point. Each arm has a tip and a contact surface is connected to one of the arms. The caliper includes a mechanical or electronic indicator which is responsive to the relative position of the arms for providing an indication of a dimension, such as the diameter, radius, circumference, or cross-sectional area, of an object. The caliper has an extended range and can provide an indication of the dimension when the tips of the arms and the contact surface simultaneously contact nondiametrically opposed points on the surface of the object.

  • Patent number: 5121558
Abstract: A shaft is supported rotatably within a tubular aluminum extrusion and is rotated by a motor, with at least a portion of the length of the shaft comprising a lead screw along which a nut is displaced during rotation of the shaft, with a member projecting from the nut radially of the shaft and through a slot in the extrusion. The projecting member provides a linearly movable indicator for measurement and/or control of the direction and amount of rotation of the shaft. For measurement purposes, a simple scale or more elaborate linear encoder may be situated at the slot for cooperation with the moveable member. For control purposes, proximity switches are adjustably repositionable along the slot so as to establish limits by and in response to which a controller may control the rotation.
