  • Patent number: 5291900
Abstract: An instrument for measuring infants which include a housing that can be slid uniformly in a straight line on a base, a measuring device to record the translational motion, which is connected to a counter that displays the path traveled. The housing also can include a lamp device, in which an electrical light source is installed in such a way that it sends a beam of light, which is focussed, downward at a right angle to the direction of movement of the housing. The electrical light source thus creates a line-shaped light spot.

  • Patent number: 5220731
Abstract: A spring force loaded contact wheel mounted in a stationary position relae to a reciprocating shaft is disclosed. The apparatus of the present invention includes a tensioning assembly for maintaining absolute contact between the contact wheel and the reciprocating shaft wherein the tensioning assembly urges the contact wheel against the shaft to maintain contact therebetween so that the wheel turns as the shaft is linearly displaced. A rotary encoding device is coupled to the wheel for translating the angular and rotational movement thereof into an electronic signal for providing linear displacement information and derivative data with respect to displacement of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5197200
Abstract: A device for the measurement of the diameter of a body such as a cylinder, more particularly in the form of a workpiece on a roll grinding machine, having a contact wheel adapted to run on the surface of the body and a first rotational pickup (angle encoder) centrally coupled with or provided with a the contact wheel, and a second rotational pickup, which is adapted to indicate at least full revolutions of the body. The cylinder is coupled with the second rotational pickup (angle encoder), which like the first rotational pickup has high pulse rate for each measurement operation one respective start pulse and end pulse of one of these two pickups is utilized in order, with corresponding pulses of the other of the pickup, to calculate the diameter of the roll.

  • Patent number: 5161313
Abstract: A hand-held instrument for measuring and calculating length, areas, peripheries and volumes is disclosed. The instrument has a housing with a tapered end giving it the overall appearance of a writing instrument. The instrument has a tracking wheel which follows a line or a curve through a revolution of the wheel. The wheel revolutions are then transmitted via an apertured shaft to an opto-electronic device which reads the angular position of the shaft and converts the wheel revolutions into electrical pulses. The pulses are inputed to a calculator which calculates length, surface areas, peripheries and volumes. A display window displays the calculator results. A caster is also disclosed to facilitate measuring curves.

  • Patent number: 5099775
Abstract: A device for measuring the passage of a predetermined length of cloth at right angles to the needle of a sewing machine comprises a frame carrying an arm mounted about a shaft and urged resiliently towards the cloth by a spring adapted to put a pinion in contact with the cloth. A shaft carries a barrel in contact with a gear fixedly connected to the pinion, the barrel enclosing a spring. The barrel is connected to a terminal by a sliding contact and carries a pin which extends into an arcuate groove in a drum while passing through an arcuate aperture in a plate. Contact elements are disposed at one end of the groove and at one end of the arcuate aperture, the pin being able to move from one to the other of these contact elements. The contact elements press against the internal surface of a metallic ring carried by the drum, the external surface of this ring being connected to a second terminal by a sliding contact.

  • Patent number: 5067249
Abstract: An instrument for measuring and converting scale dimensions such as, for example, mileage values on a map, includes a housing having a tracing wheel at one end for rolling along route lines on the map. The tracing wheel is connected to operate an actuator that causes a digital display to visually indicate a value representative of the degrees of rotation of the tracing wheel, and thus of the mileage between two points on a map. A scale adjusting device is connected with the actuator to adjust the actuator to obtain an accurate mileage indication for different scale maps.

  • Patent number: 5062063
Abstract: A length measuring apparatus which is capable of calculating an actual distance by measuring length on a map and which has a display section to display the actual distance thus calculated. The length measuring apparatus includes a distance-data input switch for inputting a distance-index data of a scale-reduction scale indicated on the map and a memory for storing length of the scale-reduction scale on the map, which is measured by the rotation of a rolling member. The length measuring apparatus automatically calculated a scale-reduction value for the map from the distance-index data and the length of the scale-reduction scale stored in the memory. Accordingly, a user of the apparatus is not required to input the scale-reduction value for the map by means of keys.

  • Patent number: 5027296
Abstract: A length-measuring apparatus is provided with memory for storing scale reduction data of a map and for storing unit data of length. Actual distance is calculated by calculation circuit when a rotating member is moved to roll along a point-to-point course on the map. Distance data expressed in unit corresponding to the above unit data of length is obtained. A plurality of distance data obtained by the above calculation circuit can be stored in memory together with the unit data of length and also can be displayed on display by operation of the display switch.

  • Patent number: 4924596
Abstract: A method for measuring wireline depths in a borehole using paired encoder wheels frictionally engaging the wireline is disclosed. The method allows for the correction of the measurement from a slipping encoder wheel without corrupting the measurement from the non-slipping encoder wheel. The method comprises incrementing corresponding depth counters whenever a pulse is produced by one of the encoder wheels. The depth counts are compared and if a significant difference exists, the value of the counter corresponding to the slipping encoder wheel is set equal to the value or the other wheel.
