Abstract: The positioning of a score line on a flat package blank can be determined relative to a datum edge by positioning the datum edge at the zero mark of a measurement scale and moving a carriage having a magnification reading unit to a position over the score line, the distance appearing from the position of a carriage reference surface on the measurement scale as well as on a caliper unit mounted on the carriage for exhibiting the measurement of distance the reference surface has passed beyond a major increment of measure on the scale.
Abstract: A laterally elongated plate is provided with anchors in a transversely elongated tape support area of the plate by which to secure the opposite ends of a length of pressure sensitive adhesive tape extended across the tape support area, with the adhesive side of the tape facing upward. A stitch indicator line is provided on the plate inwardly of and parallel to the tape support area to indicate an ultimate stitching line, and loop size guide lines also are provided on the plate spaced inwardly from and parallel to the stitch indicator line to orient cloth loop material according to the size of loops desired to be formed. Laterally spaced markings are provided on the plate adjacent the tape support area to aid in spacing loop units desired distances apart.
Abstract: A tool for measuring different details of conical bores comprising a straight elongated member adapted for close engagement against the wall surface of the bore, and having at one end a stop for limiting the length to which the said straight, elongated member can be pushed into the bore and at a predetermined distance from said stop an opening wherein a measuring arm can be pivotably fitted.
Abstract: Plumbing devices (10,30,60) are described comprising a source of light in a gimbal system (12,13,51,72) for providing two oppositely directed aligned vertically oriented beams of light. The gimbal system (12,13,51,72) is removably attached to a support (14,31,61). A handle (14a,45,62) is provided for holding the plumbing device at various distances from underlying and overlying surfaces. Each of the light beams can be focused individually. A windshield (15) is provided for removable attachment to the support for preventing wind induced oscillation of the light source. A rigid frame (32,33,65) is provided for holding the light source in a fixed position relative to an object to be plumbed and for removable attachment to the object while the object is being plumbed.
Abstract: A straight edge for use in construction formed of a plurality of members joined by hinges to an end member fitted with a slidable section mounted by a dovetail groove and tongue. The butt sections of each member are fitted with a magnet at each hinge joint so as to latch the unfolded members together in the extended position.
Abstract: A support for a hardness testing device, the support being capable of positioning the hardness testing device to measure hardness of a surface in different positions. The multipositionable support comprises a pair of elongted parallel support members along which is supported a slidably adjustable cross-beam member for positioning a hardness device relative to a surface being tested. Each support member has pivotally connected to one of its ends a magnetic means which may be moved about its pivotal axis and rotated about the axis of its support member for alignment of the magnet means with an adjacent supporting surface. The magnet means has sufficient holding power to fixedly and rigidly hold the support against the force applied to the indentor of the testing device. The hardness testing device is coupled to an actuator knob at the cross-beam and is supported at the cross-beam.

Abstract: A document protecting device for holding a flexible document is disclosed comprising a first and a second member each having a transparent substantially planar central region interposed between end regions. Each of the end regions includes a protrusion entending outwardly relative to the planar central region. The first member is mounted relative to the second member with the protrusions defining end containers for receiving rolled portions of the flexible document with the planar central regions protecting an intermediate portion of the flexible document. The first and second members may be slideably mounted relative to one another for exposing a portion of the flexible document for making notations thereon. The first and second members may be substantially identical to one another with each of the members having a groove on one end thereof and a slide on the other end thereof.
Abstract: A neutralizable permanent-magnet base is shaped to engage the usual housing for the gear-supporting mandrel of known types of gear cutters. A U-shaped yoke fixed to the top of the base supports a pivot block on a transverse horizontal axis. The pivot block receives a sliding cylindrical arm for rotational and length adjustments. A probe head on the front end of the sliding arm carries a ball or other-shaped probe which can be swung downwardly between gear teeth before removal, then upwardly to permit gear removal for testing, again downwardly to accurately re-locate the gear if found defective but salvageable, and finally upwardly for the re-cutting of one, several or all of the teeth of the defective gear.
Abstract: A cursor assembly for use in association with a viewing window of a microfiche viewer consisting of a first guide rail, a slide member and a reader bar projecting outwardly from the slide member. The slide member has U-shaped slipway extending longitudinally thereof. The slipway is substantially wider than the guide rail whereby the slide member may be located on the guide rail with the guide rail extending longitudinally through the slipway. A permanent magnet is carried by the slide member such that the slipway is located within the magnetic field of the magnet whereby the slide member may be magnetically secured with respect to the guide rail. The reader bar projects outwardly from the slide member and extends across the viewing window in use. The slipway and guide rail are proportioned to permit the slipway to be angularly inclined with respect to the guide rail to be angularly adjustable with respect to the guide rail to be aligned with images readable on the viewing window.
Abstract: A vertical upright U-shaped member has two parallel legs with parallel vertical inner and outer surfaces, the inner surfaces being adjacent and parallel to each other, one leg having a horizontal bore extending transversely between its inner and outer surfaces and disposed adjacent the upper end of this leg. A sleeve is removably disposed in the bore. A flat disc lies in a vertical plane and is secured to the inner surface of the other leg, with its center aligned with the bore axis. A shaft engages the sleeve, with a front non-magnetic portion extending through the bore into the space between the legs and with a rear magnetic portion extending outwardly from the outer surface of the one leg. Another disc parallel to the one disc is secured to the front end of the shaft. An elongated cylinder having a horizontal axis has at one end a magnetic element coupled to the rear end of the shaft. Manual rotation of the cylinder causes the shaft to rotate.
Abstract: A portable strain gauge for measuring stress in a bar. The instrument includes a pair of spaced magnetic bases that magnetically adhere to the bar. A pair of mounting pads may be firmly strapped to the bar at suitable spacing in order to mount the bases in situations where the bar is nonmagnetic. An actuator rod has one end fixed to the first base and its other end freely slides in an axial direction relative to the second base. A pivotal lever is spring biased against the actuator rod to pivot in proportion to movement of the rod relative to the second base as the bar is stressed. A dial indicator includes a plunger that is spring biased against the lever at a location offset from the actuator rod. The lever displaces the plunger in proportion to the movement of the actuator rod in order to mechanically convert the strain on the bar into stress which is indicated on the dial indicator.
Abstract: A novel method cutting textile material into garment-pattern shaped pieces using thin paper sheet pattern pieces utilizing magnetic objects to position and clamp the pattern pices to the textile. Further, a method of storing the cut textile is disclosed.
