Abstract: A method for providing a first modulation scheme based on a second modulation scheme, the second modulation scheme including a first constellation point associated with a first bit pattern and a second constellation point associated with a second bit pattern. The method includes mapping the second bit pattern from the second constellation point to the first constellation point, wherein an energy associated with the second constellation point is greater than an energy associated with the first constellation point.

Abstract: The invention relates to communication in a wireless communications network in which a cell comprises areas with different topographies, for example between indoor and outdoor areas. The communication is optimized by means of a repeater for use in a fixed wireless broadband communications system, comprising receiving means for receiving a downlink signal from a base station, signal processing means for processing the downlink signal to produce an output signal, and transmitting means for transmitting the output signal, said repeater being characterized in that it comprises means for creating diversity in the output signal.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for frequency modulating a PWM involves 1) generating a high frequency carrier signal much greater in frequency than the PWM signal; 2) modulating the high frequency signal to generate a spread spectrum carrier signal; and, 3) retiming a PWM signal with this high frequency SS carrier signal so that the binary transitions of the PWM signal are aligned with the frequency varying carrier signal. In another embodiment, a PWM oscillator is driven by a second, FM oscillator having spread spectrum characteristics. In another embodiment a PWM oscillator is driven and modulated by a counter/frequency divider comprised of modules.
Abstract: The operating method is based on the simultaneous use of FM and AM and is distinguished by passing through a number of steps which are used to find an optimum frequency for the AM and, in addition, to define an optimum AM level. An electronic ballast which has a memory module which can be overwritten is used for implementation.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating an amplitude-modulated signal based on a modulation signal including first and second digital oscillators which are controlled based on first and second phase shifts derived from the modulation signal, and output first and second phase-modulated signals having a same amplitude and first and second phases, respectively; first and second amplification channels which amplify the first and second phase-modulated signals, respectively, and output first and second amplified phase-modulated signals; an adder which adds the first and second amplified phase-modulated signals and outputs a resultant amplitude-modulated signal; and a filter which filters the resultant amplitude-modulated signal and outputs the amplitude-modulated signal. The method and apparatus for amplitude modulation is suited for applications in "solid state" power transmitters.
Abstract: A remote sensing system including a control module coupled to a remote device module via an optical fiber is disclosed. The device module includes circuitry for detecting changes in physical parameters and for transmitting data relating thereto back to the control module in serial form via the optical fiber. Power for the circuitry within the device module is obtained from a photodiode which receives light from the control module via the optical fiber and no power multiplication is utilized except which the remote module is transmitting serial data back to the control module. Data signals are also provided from which monitoring of the integrity of the device module and connections thereto can be obtained.
