Abstract: An orbiting relay assembly may be provided that has one or more switches. The switches may be provided with electrical contacts. An actuator such as an electromagnetic actuator may rotate guiding structures such as a rotating yoke about a rotational axis. The guiding structures may have portions that receive movable electrical coupling structures such as metal balls or cylinders. There may be multiple movable electrical coupling structures in a relay. The electrical coupling structures may be distributed radially outwards from the rotational axis, may be distributed circumferentially about the rotational axis, or may be distributed axially parallel to the rotational axis. The guiding structures may be configured to place the switches in one or more different operating states by moving the metal balls or other movable electrical coupling structures about the rotational axis.
Abstract: A multipolar electrical switch includes at least one central pole housing, which adjoins two adjacent pole housings of the switch. In at least one embodiment of the invention, an electrical switching mechanism for switching an electrical phase current on and off is contained in each of the pole housings respectively. The central pole housing is equipped with a fastening element, which extends through the central pole housing into the two adjacent pole housings, namely in each instance to at most the center of the adjacent pole housings.
Abstract: A multi-pole circuit breaker and method include at least two breaker modules including circuit breakers therein. The circuit breakers include a moveable arm configured to connect and disconnect contacts therein. The at least two modules including armatures connectable to the moveable arms of each of the at least two modules. A center module connects the at least two modules. The center module includes an actuator and a beam connected to the actuator at a mid-portion. The beam connects to each armature of the at least two modules wherein under a trip condition the actuator displaces the beam to simultaneously trip the at least two modules using the armatures.
Abstract: A circuit breaker includes separable contacts, an operating mechanism structured to open and close the contacts, and a trip unit cooperating with the operating mechanism to trip open the contacts. The trip unit includes a sensor structured to sense current flowing through the contacts, a processor structured to output a trip signal responsive to the sensed current, and a trip actuator. The trip actuator includes a housing including a recess, a coil within the recess, the coil having an opening therethrough, a magnet within the recess, a thermoplastic bushing including a conduit therethrough, the thermoplastic bushing being coupled to the housing, and an armature disposable within the opening of the coil and slidably disposed within the conduit of the thermoplastic bushing. The magnet attracts the armature toward the housing. A spring biases the armature away from the housing, in order to cause the operating mechanism to trip open the contacts.

Abstract: A circuit breaker includes an enclosure with a first side and a second side opposite and distal from the first side. A number of separable contacts are enclosed by the enclosure. An operating mechanism is structured to open and close the separable contacts. A plurality of terminals are electrically interconnected with the number of separable contacts. The terminals protrude through the second side of the enclosure. A number of phase barrier apparatus is disposed on the second side of the enclosure. Each of the number of phase barrier apparatus includes a plurality of separate phase barrier members, each of which is disposed about a corresponding one of the terminals, and a number of interlocking members. Each of the number of interlocking members interlocks with an adjacent pair of the separate phase barrier members.
