  • Patent number: 7633361
Abstract: An improved electromechanical RF switch provides enhanced reliability and lifespan by incorporating a middle plate between the case and base elements for locating the guide pins, reed holders and reeds to increase accuracy in critical component alignment. The middle plate reduces required precision during assembly of the switch, thus increasing assembly accuracy while reducing labor cost. The guide pins are made of a hard insulator such as glass to generate less wear particles, and the reed holder has a groove filled with lubricant to trap any wear particles that result from sliding friction during switch operation. Optionally, a low-friction bushing is used within the case bore to further reduce sliding friction during reed holder travel. The reeds are made of thin, flexible metal and have ends shaped so that when the ends contact switching terminals, a wiping action removes any surface contamination from both the reed ends and the terminals.

  • Patent number: 7535328
Abstract: In an electromagnet switch, a stationary iron core is composed mainly of a base part and a disk part. The base part is faced to a plunger and the disk part is forcedly inserted and fixed to a boss part formed in the base part. The disk part is composed of a metal plate of ferromagnetic substance (iron plate) and another substance plate (made of resin or rubber and the like, for example,) of a smaller spring constant or a larger damping coefficient than that of the metal plate. The metal plate and another substance plate are laminated. Another substance plate absorbs or reduces the impact force when the plunger is electromagnetically attracted toward and collides with the base part. The propagation of a large impact noise or crashing sound is thereby suppressed, and as a result the impact noise can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6489869
Abstract: An electrical component having a functional unit which is secured to a header and which generates or is sensitive to sound, and having terminal elements which are mechanically secured to the header and electrically and acoustically coupled to the functional unit and which project through holes in the header onto the side of the header remote from the functional unit and which have a modulus of elasticity of EA>50 MPa, in which the terminal elements are partially encased in a viskoelastic material having a modulus of elasticity of EW<10 MPa. By encasing the terminal elements in a viskoelastic material, effective sound-damping can be produced. Furthermore, the invention relates to a process for manufacturing the component.

  • Patent number: 5703549
Abstract: A relay for use particularly in motor vehicles has a stable ferromagnetic core, an excitation coil wound around the core and a movable assembly, composed by a movable ferromagnetic armature, connected to a blade carrying an electric contact. The blade is movable with respect to the armature and has a fulcrum in an appropriate seat obtained in the armature. The blade is constrained to the armature in an elastic fashion, but is suitable to produce a damping effect on the bouncing phenomenon. The relay also has a return spring to maintain the assembly in a position of maximum air gap with respect to the stable core, when the device is in a release condition, whereby a leaf spring is provided, being fixed in a predetermined point of the movable armature, which constrains for elastic reaction the movement of the movable blade and maintains the desired pressure contact on the electric contact.

  • Patent number: 5642086
Abstract: A switch includes switching elements which are mounted within a sealed radio frequency cavity. The switching elements provide electrical contact paths between contact portions of connectors which project into the cavity. The switching elements are urged against the contacts by magnetic forces. During operation, unselected paths have their switching elements grounded out by the action of external magnets which attract the unselected switching elements to a ground plate with a magnetic force which overcomes the magnetic forces urging the switching elements against the contacts.

  • Patent number: 5434475
Abstract: An outdoor lighting control includes a photosensor responsive to ambient outdoor light and an alternating current relay with a pair of contacts movable between make and break positions. The relay includes a contact actuating arrangement that responds to the photosensor and alternating current bias the contacts into a make position and move the contacts electromagnetically into a break position. The contact actuating arrangement includes a coiled extension spring for moving the contacts into the make position and a resilient armature which biases the armature toward the break position. The spring and armature have respective resiliences sufficiently stiff and responsive to the alternating current to limit chatter in the contacts during passage from the make position to the break position to 15 milliseconds when the photosensitive means senses a transition between dark and daylight.

  • Patent number: 4625194
Abstract: An a.c. contactor with an armature activated by a magnetic system, which is effectively connected to a return spring-loaded contactor onto which the movable contact component of the contact system is mounted. The contact carrier is herein fitted with an auxiliary mass and placed in effective contact with the armature by a coupling spring, wherein the auxiliary mass is movable in relationship to the contact carrier and an additional spacer bar component, with which the armature is coupled. The coupling spring supported on one end by the contact carrier, can on the other end connect to an offset end of the spacer component which is pressed against the auxiliary mass, whereby the auxiliary mass connects with a catch of a contact carrier or else is spring-loaded against the direction of motion of the contact carrier towards a stop on the contact carrier via a separate auxiliary spring. These improvements dampen and delay the recoil of the contact carrier experienced during switching of the a.c. contactor.

  • Patent number: 3987384
Abstract: An arrangement for coupling the armature and contact-bridge carrier for an electromagnetic switching device, such as a relay which comprises an elastic interlay interposed between the contact-bridge carrier and the armature of the relay. The interlay is shaped substantially like the frustum of a cone. The first surface or base of the cone contacts the contact-bridge carrier, while the second surface or cut-off side of the cone frustum, contacts the armature. This arrangement, minimizes the lateral shock-loading of the contact-bridge carrier when the relay is switched off so that resulting mechanical moments are kept relatively small. Further, the arrangement provides an increased level of damping.
