Abstract: An interrupter for internal combustion engines includes fixed reed-switch type contact means which are caused to be opened and closed at the proper points of time by means of magnetic fields generated by a rotatable formed by magnetic particles and an insulating binder and armature having alternating magnetic field zones and zones which do not produce significant magnetic fields. The reed-switch contact means are enclosed in a multifunction housing.
Abstract: An electrical switch is disclosed which includes a first and second pair of pole pieces and an armature mounted to move freely between the first pair of pole pieces and the second pair of pole pieces. A magnet is provided which is supported for movement between the first pair of pole pieces and the second pair of pole pieces. When the magnet is moved from one position to the other, the flux is switched from one pair of pole pieces to the other pair of pole pieces and the armature moves from one pair of pole pieces to the other pair of pole pieces.
Abstract: A switching magnet is moveable along a row of magnetically operated switches and closes at least one switch opposite the magnet, which switches on a tap of a series circuit of resistors. The value of resistance is converted in an uninterrupted manner into an output of measured values dependent upon the position of the switching magnet.
Abstract: Apparatus for attachment to a standard typewriter for selectively actuating one or more of a plurality of magnetically actuated switches in electrical circuits that are connected to recording means through an electrical matrix circuit. A switch and actuating lever are provided for each of the unique keys of the typewriter so that signals identifying the corresponding character or function can be produced. The apparatus is compact and can be easily installed beneath the keyboard under the typewrter. Pivotable actuating levers having magnets thereon move into close proximity to the magnetically actuated switches in response to striking of the typewriter keys. The apparatus also includes magnetic shielding for preventing a lever from actuating more than one switch, even though the switches can be in extremely close proximity to one another.
Abstract: A manikin system for simulating a cardiological patient is disclosed including a stethoscope with a magnet in its head which when placed on the chest of a manikin will close one or more of a number of reed switches disposed beneath the simulated skin causing an associated one of a number of stored, condition-indicating electrical signal sources to communicate the signals to an audio output for producing appropriate condition-indicating sounds. The condition-indicating electrical signals are placed in a set on the tracks of a magnetic tape to correspond to the sounds of a particular disease and the associated switch for each track is disposed at the point on the manikin chest that the particular sounds would be heard on the chest of an actual patient. The blood pressure of the manikin in accordance with the disease may also be treated by the provision of a switch in the arm of the manikin, which is connected in the manner of the chest switches, and by applying a pressure cuff in the clinical manner.

Abstract: An implantable cardiac pacer has a counter for encoding different binary numbers in response to clock pulses applied thereto through an internal clock pulse generating switch that can be activated from outside of the subject's body by application of radiant energy. The binary numbers are decoded with switches that sequentially connect and disconnect circuit elements to control a characteristic of the pacer such as its stimulus pulse width, pulse amplitude, pulse rate and others. The clock pulse switch may be one that is activated with light or pressure but is preferably a magnetic switch system controlled by a shaped magnetic field for preventing inadvertent operation. The encoder counter recycles or resets to its initial value when a predetermined number of clock pulses are applied.
Abstract: A key operated switch device in which any one of a set of different keys may be utilized to operate a particular combination of sets of electrical contacts unique to that key, the sets of electrical contacts being provided by reed switches located adjacent a keyway adapted to receive any one of the keys in said set, and the keys incorporating different arrangements of magnets or magnetized zones adapted to actuate different combinations of said reed switches.

Abstract: An electrical switch assembly includes a housing adapted to be coupled to a hose and nozzle to form a fluid passage therebetween. The assembly has a pair of reed switches which provide signal input to circuitry and each switch may be activated by the manual rotation of a sleeve. The sleeve carries a magnet to actuate the switch and may be rotated in either direction from a centered position between the reed switches.
Abstract: An alarm system is constructed to energize when the bottom window or the top window of a three-element window assembly is opened, so long as the third element (usually a screen) is not in its closed position in front of the window being opened or if the third element is removed from its mounting slides. The switching functions are performed by magnetic reed switches imbedded in the window frame and responsive to permanent magnets in the peripheral frame of the respective elements.
Abstract: A snap-action switch moves a spring-biased, movable contact against a stationary contact. The switch includes a toroidal permanent magnet mounted loosely on a nonmagnetic, self lubricating plunger. The magnet is normally magnetically attracted to and adjacent to both a keeper and an armature, the armature being fixed to the plunger. The plunger slides through the keeper which also mounts the switch to a keyboard. A finger-engageable button is moved toward the keyboard to store sufficient potential energy in a spring to move the plunger and suddenly break the magnetic attraction, thereby providing a tactile snap-action. Plunger movement moves the movable contact in spring-versus-spring fashion until the contacts engage. Facilities are provided to minimize contact bounce, to maintain the magnet in a preferred position during plunger movement, to ensure self-aligning of the magnet with the keeper and the armature, to minimize contact damage and to optimize the tactile "feel" of the switch.
Abstract: A device for detecting the opening of a throttle valve of a diesel engine for vehicles. The device comprises a magnetic shield adapted to be rotated responsive to the opening of the throttle valve, a magnet adapted to be inserted into the magnetic shield, a plurality of reed switches embedded in the housing, and a plurality of flip-flop circuits adapted to be set or reset for producing a gate signal to be fed to a gate circuit.
