  • Patent number: 4458227
Abstract: An electromagnetic actuator is disclosed comprising a substantially planar, permanent magnet arrangement providing at least one magnetic field extending generally normal to the plane of the magnet arrangement. Included is at least one conductor extending in a conductor plane generally parallel to the plane of the magnet arrangement with a portion of the conductor in intersecting relation to the field, whereby relative motion is effected between the conductor and the magnetic arrangement in their respective planes upon energization of the conductor. In one embodiment the magnetic arrangement is mounted for movement in a multiplicity of directions in the plane of the magnet arrangement and there are a plurality of separately energizeable conductors lying in or close to the conductor plane, each of the conductors having a portion configured for intersecting the one magnetic field at an angle different from other conductors.

  • Patent number: 4416211
Abstract: An easily calibrated indicating device for monitoring pressures or other parameters that vary, comprising a housing having a scale plate with indicia representing a range of values, and an indicating member movable over the scale plate, for designating various values thereon. A driving permanent magnet is movable in the housing, and responds to changes in the parameter being measured. A movable follower permanent magnet is also provided in the housing, for reacting with the driving magnet, the follower magnet in turn being connected to the indicating member so as to shift the same in response to movement of the driving magnet. A third, trim or calibration permanent magnet is provided, which alters the reaction between the first two magnets, thereby enabling either an expansion or else a contraction of the range of movement of the indicator member to be had as it responds to a predetermined change in the condition being measured.

  • Patent number: 4345228
Abstract: A rotary actuator for imparting a rotational force to a rotary valve member of a multi-way valve device has a cylindrical housing and an electric motor housed therein and being operative to produce a torque corresponding to the input current supplied to the motor. The motor shaft is hollow and rotatably journalled by the end walls of the motor housing. A torsion bar is housed in the shaft and fixed at one end to one end of the shaft. The other end of the torsion bar is fixed to the housing so that, when rotational force is imparted by the motor to the shaft and thus the rotary valve member connected thereto, the torsion bar produces a return force applied to the shaft. The angular position of the other end of the torsion bar about the axis thereof is adjustable within a limited range. The actuator is suited to impart a rotational motion of less than 180.degree. and provides a reduced hysteresis in the rotation characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4338013
Abstract: In the disclosed shutter, shutter blades are reciprocatable between exposure start positions and end positions. Reciprocative rotating electromagnetic drive sources with stators and rotors reciprocate the shutter blades. Magnetic members on the stator facing the rotors hold the latter at positions corresponding to the blades' start positions and are movable to vary the gaps formed between the rotors and themselves.

  • Patent number: 4269493
Abstract: An electromagnetic shutter control device for controlling opening and closing operation of the shutter of a compact folding camera includes a bobbin having a magnetic winding therearound, a stationary permanent magnet over which the bobbin fits for magnetically actuated movement in a longitudinal direction, and guide elements for constraining movement of the bobbin in the longitudinal direction only. The permanent magnet acts to maintain the bobbin in a normal position at the terminal end of its movement coinciding with the closed position of the shutter. Energization of the magnetic winding actuates the bobbin in order to thereby actuate the shutter to the open position. The bobbin and the permanent magnet are particularly formed with a rectangular configuration so that the electromagnetic control device may be shaped to enhance and facilitate the compactness of a camera with which it is utilized.

  • Patent number: 4211992
Abstract: A limited rotation motor having means for simultaneously positioning the fixed magnet and moving coil thereof with respect both to each other and a fixed stator. A pair of bridges transversely extend across the front and rear stator faces spanning the central opening defined thereby. A first pair of transversely spaced pins inwardly extend from each of the bridges in such a manner so as to contact opposite surfaces of the magnet in side-to-side contact so as to position the magnet with respect to the stator in first horizontal position. A second pair of pins located transversely between the first pair thereof also longitudinally inwardly extend from the respective rear surfaces of the bridges and contact the open face of a slot disposed in the end faces of the magnet so as to position the magnet in a second, i.e. vertical, direction with respect to the stator.

  • Patent number: 4089503
Abstract: The invention contemplates a virtually hysteresis-free electromechanically actuated, valve, wherein an electrical input current is converted into a substantially rectilineal force or displacement, using a single electrical coil and two spaced and oppositely polarized air gaps. Similarly spaced, opposed parts of the coil are compliantly mounted for and constrained to move in the respective air gaps, the constraint being such as to develop substantially a unidirectional force and/or displacement which is in the plane of the gap-shrouded parts of the coil. The actuating mechanism is described in the context of an hydraulic-valve, with incorporation of a viscous-damping feature.

  • Patent number: 4053975
Abstract: A wire is wound on a coil body form about a removable mandrel in a first layer in which the turns abut one another. A guide ring reverses the direction of lead of the wire to form a second, overlying layer in which the turns are spaced a short distance apart from one another. The final turns of the outer layer engage about the coil form. A casting agent applied to the coil penetrates the turns of the second and first layers and is hardened. The mandrel is removed and the coil is self-supporting, for use as in a moving-coil motor. A fiberglass sheet may optionally be applied about the first layer before the second layer is wound thereover to increase the strength of the coil.
