  • Patent number: 7660083
Abstract: An electromechanical/solid-state AC relay has an electromechanical winding coil that moves an armature to force mechanical contacts to open or close. Electrical arcing across the mechanical contacts that occur as the contacts are opening or closing can damage and severely reduce the lifetime of the relay. Contact arcing is prevented by pulsing a triac on for a short period of time just before and after the mechanical contacts make or break contact. The triac limits the voltage difference across the mechanical contacts to less than one volt to prevent arcing. The triac is turned off after the mechanical contacts finish moving, reducing the heating and average power through the triac. A zero-sampling circuit that detects when the AC input voltage switches across 0 volts and activates a control integrated circuit to switch on the triac during zero-crossings to minimize power surges.

  • Publication number: 20090261929
Abstract: The present invention is disclosed by that the power source device is operatively controlled by the switching device to supply AC power to excite the driving coil thereby producing larger electromagnetic effect to obtain actuating force, and after actuation, the power source device being operatively controlled by the switching device is switched to provide DC power output of lower voltage to the driving coil thereby passing smaller current to maintain excitation while required operating characteristics of the electromagnetic actuating device are still ensured.

  • Patent number: 5394131
Abstract: The invention concerns a bistable magnetic drive with an assembled armature 3, 4 consisting of a high-grade, disk-shaped permanent magnet 3 with two appropriately shaped pole pieces 4,4' and displaceable sideways off the coil 1 transversely to its axis inside an electromagnetic annular pole-piece Rp between two electromagnetic stop pole-pieces 5, 5'. The invention describes illustrative embodiments and applications of this drive as an excursion and oscillating magnet, further a circuit for DC operation. A capacitor circuit furthermore allows mono-stable operation. The advantages are a lightweight armature, high efficiency, bilateral operation, versatility and simplicity.

  • Patent number: 4899121
Abstract: An alternating current electromagnet with a magnetic core assembly is provided with a unique design for a sideplate. The sideplate has a slot with a lateral opening. In assembling the sideplate onto the side of the magnetic core, the slot receives a shading coil. A portion of the sideplate forming the slot extends across a channel formed in a pole face of the core to lock the shading coil into the channel along the sides of the core. The sideplate is formed in a C-configuration and interconnects two L-shape cores arranged in a C-configuration with a gap existing between the confronting faces of the lower legs of the cores.

  • Patent number: 4514711
Abstract: An AC current electromagnetic relay is disclosed herein. The relay comprises a U-shaped armature with arms connected by a web and a generally E-shaped yoke with an elongated center leg and shortened side legs extending from a common base, the elongated center leg serving as a core around which a coil and a shading ring are disposed. The U-shaped armature is placed on the yoke with the free end edges of the arms being pivotally supported on the respective side legs of the yoke, so that upon the energization of the coil the armature is pulled toward the yoke and abuts against the respective free end portions of the side legs and the center leg, such free end portions being cooperative to define apexes of a triangle. Thus, a three-point contact can be attained between the armature and the yoke.

  • Patent number: 4142169
Abstract: There is disclosed a solenoid of improved construction and a facile method for its manufacture. The solenoid is intended for use with cyclic voltage supplies and has a fixed-position pole assembly of a pole piece, shading ring and flux ring which is secured in a retaining sleeve. The pole piece has an annular groove which receives an inward, annular bead of the sleeve to retain the assembly. The sleeve is mounted within a solenoid casing within an annular coil and the casing is closed by an end closure plate which bears against the end of the sleeve. The inward annular offset of the sleeve provides a resilient axial compressability of the sleeve permitting facile assembly to precise tolerances.
