Patent number: 7812609Abstract: Improved receiver antennas are disclosed for long offset tensor induction army logging tools. The disclosed antennas include a bobbin which accommodates a ferromagnetic core. The outer surface of the bobbin is wrapped around a binding so that winding is thicker or includes more turns towards a center of the bobbin and is thinner or includes less turns towards the outer ends of the bobbin. The result is that the primary winding with a curved or parabolic profile that enhances the effective magnetic permeability and magnetic moment of the antenna. A secondary winding may also be utilized for flux feedback compensation. The elimination of winding turns towards the ends of the magnetic coil result in reduced DC resistance and the reduction in parasitic capacitance of the antennas. The disclosed antennas may be used in x-y-z receiver arrays.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2007Date of Patent: October 12, 2010Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: Ismael Martinez, Dean M. Patent number: 7132918Abstract: An inductive coil assembly having multiple coils arranged at distinct orientations to provide efficient inductive coupling of power or communications or both to a device when the device is arranged at different orientations with respect to the inductive primary coil. In one embodiment, the inductive coil assembly includes three coils, each oriented along one of the x, y and z axes of a standard Cartesian three-dimensional coordinate system. The three separate coils provide effective transfer of power and communication when the device is at essentially any orientation with respect to the primary coil. In an alternative embodiment, the multi-axis inductive coil assembly of the present invention can function as a primary to inductively transmit power or communication or both over a plurality of magnetic fields at distinct orientations.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2003Date of Patent: November 7, 2006Assignee: Access Business Group International LLCInventors: David W. Patent number: 7079001Abstract: A nuclear fusion reactor system includes a reactor core containing nuclear fusionable material and a plurality of conducting spheres arranged adjacent each other with at least two of said conducting spheres adjacent the reactor core. The reactor core and the conducting spheres form a electro/magnetic circuit such that fusion of fusionable material in the reactor core establishes an electro/magnetic flow around the electro/magnetic circuit. Preferably, a spherical electromagnetic confinement field is initiated around the reactor core such that fusion of the nuclear fusionable material generates a plasma which interacts with the spherical electromagnetic confinement field in a magnethydrodynamic manner. Preferably, electrical energy is inductively extracted in response to the electro/magnetic flow through a coil arrangement located around at least one of the conducting spheres.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2005Date of Patent: July 18, 2006Inventor: John T. Publication number: 20010004230Abstract: An air-wound, coil-type, passive inductor includes a surface which allows the coil to be picked-up using a vacuum probe of a head of a pick-an-place machine and the surface does not interfere with adjusting the spacing between the loops of the coil for tuning the coil after the coil is attached to a circuit board. Terminal ends of the coil are placed on solder paste on interconnection pads on the circuit board, then the board is heated to reflow the solder, and then washed to remove the flux contained in the solder paste. The surface may be adapted to be removed or at least degraded by the heating, or the washing, or afterwards by a mechanical method of removal without damaging the coil.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 1, 2001Publication date: June 21, 2001Applicant: Philips Electronics North America Corp.Inventor: David H. Patent number: 5281941Abstract: A coil form for supporting coils of wire includes three intersecting orthogonal plates whose peripheral surfaces together define an imaginary spherical surface. Patent number: 5146197Abstract: A first set of three spherically or elliptically shaped coils is provided which generates a homogeneous linear gradient magnetic field in its interior. A second set of three spherically or elliptically shaped coils is located concentric to and in close proximity with the first coil set such that the fringing fields outside the second coil set are substantially zero. The coil sets can be separated at their equator and preferably are spherical in shape. The current distribution for each coil is described as well as the winding pattern on the surface of the first sphere which generates the perfectly homogeneous linear gradients inside the sphere. The second concentric sphere having a second coil set thereon which has a similar current distribution and winding pattern to the first coil set such that it will perfectly shield the inner sphere while reducing the linear gradient inside the first sphere by only a factor of 1-(R.sub.1 /R.sub.2).sup.5, where R.sub.1 and R.sub.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1990Date of Patent: September 8, 1992Assignee: University of PittsburghInventor: Irving J. Patent number: 5047715Abstract: An electromagnetic device for inductive position measurements for eliminating both the disadvantage of a limited measuring range and the disadvantage of superimposed interference voltages in the event of directional changes by providing a probe having a plurality of winding axes having coils with turn diameters which are greater, as the distance from the center of the probe increases. This creates the possibility of filling the entire probe volume with turns, and an almost complete independence from the direction of the probes relative to one another is shown for distance measures.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1988Date of Patent: September 10, 1991Inventor: Jurgen Morgenstern
