Abstract: A thermally responsive switch includes a container including a metal housing and a header plate, at least one conductive terminal pin inserted through a hole of the header plate, a fixed contact fixed to the terminal pin, a thermally responsive plate having one of two ends conductively connected via a support to an inner surface of the container and reversing a direction of curvature at a predetermined temperature, and at least one movable contact electrically conductively secured directly to the other end of the thermally responsive plate. Each contact is comprised of a silver-cadmium oxide system contact. The container is filled with a gas containing helium ranging from 50% to 95% so that an internal pressure of the container ranges from 0.38 atmosphere to 0.68 atmosphere at room temperature such that arc generated during opening of the contacts moves on surfaces of the contacts without spreading from the contacts.

  • Patent number: 4356365
Abstract: An air-operated switching device includes first and second spaced supports on which an armature is mounted. The armature includes a resilient blade fixedly mounted at a first end on the first support and for sliding movement with respect to the second support. A resilient contact finger extends from the slidably supported end of the armature and includes a free end having a contact thereon. A fixed contact is positioned in alignment with the contact of the finger. An air-operated actuator applies pressure to the blade causing it to flex with the one end of the blade moving slidably over the second support, thereby causing the finger contact to be moved into engagement with the fixed contact with a wiping motion.

  • Patent number: 4155062
Abstract: A thermally sensitive switch has a thermally conductive body within which is a chamber into which extends at least one electrically conductive terminal. Occupying the chamber is an elastomeric body which is expansible and contractile in response to increases and decreases, respectively, in its temperature. The elastomeric body may be normally conductive or normally nonconductive, but in either event is conductive when in its expanded condition. When in its expanded, conductive condition, the body engages the terminal and is operable to establish a current path through the body to the terminal. The body may function as an on-off switch or as a rheostat, depending upon the composition of the body.
