Including Cam And Follower Patents (Class 337/353)
  • Patent number: 5006827
Abstract: A thermostat is disclosed which has a moveable backstop in order to fulfill a requirement in many countries that a 3 millimeter contact gap be provided for the thermostat to qualify as an electrical disconnect. The thermostat is comprised of a setting wheel having a ramp formed thereon, a lever, a plunger and a backstop slidably connected to the frame of the thermostat. The lever contacts the ramp on the setting wheel and is moved by rotation of the setting wheel. One end of the plunger is in contact with the lever, the other end being in contact with the backstop. When movement of the setting wheel causes movement of the lever, the plunger is moved in an axial direction thereof, thus causing movement of the backstop. The ramp is positioned on the setting wheel such that the backstop is moved when the setting wheel is turned to an off position.

  • Patent number: 4902999
Abstract: An electrical circuit breaker comprises a base with two terminals embedded in, and extending through, the base. The external plug-in portions of the terminals are centered on the base. The internal portions of the terminals are off to one side in order to accommodate a PMB bimetal mounted on said internal portions. A cover secured to the base encloses the PMB bimetal.

  • Patent number: 4208644
Abstract: An electrical energy regulator of the kind including an electrically energizable heater which, when energized, causes deflection of a bi-metal actuator which in turn influences operation of switch means. The switch means controls supply of electrical energy between input and load terminals which are respectively connected, when in use, to a power source and power using means. The switch means includes two heater contacts which must be closed to enable energization of the heater, and two control contacts which must be closed to enable connection of the input and load terminals. The switch means also includes a spring blade which is connected to the input terminal and carries one of the heater contacts and one of the control contacts. The blade is movable between two operative conditions in which the heater contacts are open and closed respectively, and the control contacts are closed and open respectively.

  • Patent number: 4166994
Abstract: Thermostats for use in electrically heated appliances have a positive off position and are adapted for transition to a low temperature on position within a small amount (approximately one radian) of control shaft rotation. The thermostats comprise a stacked blade assembly including a lower bimetal temperature responsive blade, an intermediate stiff spring blade and an upper less stiff flexible spring blade, with the spring blade having juxtaposed switch contacts thereon and the bimetal blade operating to separate the switch contacts when the set temperature is attained. A control bracket mounted above the stacked blade assembly defines an opening through which a control shaft extends, the control shaft butting against the stiff spring blade and positioning it. The shaft mounts a cam and the control bracket has a depending cam follower for the cam, wherein the spring blade urges the cam against the cam follower.
