The bimetal device includes at least one first bimetal element and at least one curved second bimetal element that are connected to each other in a zone of contact and are designed in said zone of contact such that the coefficient of thermal expansion of the first bimetal element increases from its bottom to the top and the coefficient of thermal expansion of the curved second bimetal element decreases from its bottom to the top, or vice versa.

    Abstract: A thermostat is disclosed having a bimetallic strip actuating a single pole, double throw switch, one throw to sense temperatures below the lower limit of a set point range and the other throw to sense temperatures above the upper limit of the set point range. In typical applications one throw for actuating heating and the other throw for actuating cooling. The bimetallic strip is provided with typically a cantilever support at one end and extends between dimensional spaced double throw contacts at the opposite end. Spacing of the contacts determines magnitude of the set point range. An intermediate beam type support is provided between the cantilever support and double throw contacts. This beam support consists of an adjustment screw acting on one side of the bimetallic strip and a spring directly opposing the adjustment screw.

The switch mounts first electrical contacts on an insulating support and incorporates spring means mounted on a carrier, second contacts mounted on the spring means, and thermally responsive, snap-acting bimetallic discs or the like which are easily disposed between the respective spring means and the carrier to move the second contacts relative to the carrier in response to temperature change.

    Abstract: A thermostatic switch (10) employs a switch blade (22) having spaced thereon a set of service contacts (16, 20).One end of the blade is supported by a heat collapsible support (46) and a second set of contacts (26, 24), the contact sets being electrically in series. The service contacts are actuated by a slider (30) driven by a bi-metallic heat sensing element (32). A spring loaded button (52) biases the blade (22) against the collapsible support. Both sets of contacts (16, 20), (26, 24) are normally closed and upon the thermostat experiencing excessive temperatures the heat-collapsible support yields to the force of the bias spring (54) and causes the second set of contacts (26, 24) to open irrespective of the condition of the service contacts (16, 20).

    Abstract: A thermostat is provided for controlling a heating apparatus having two individually actuatable heating elements in order to more accurately control the heat output of the apparatus. The thermostat is designed such that at environment of temperatures below a set temperature t.sub.1, less than the desired temperature t, both heating elements are actuated. As the environmental temperature increases beyond the set temperature t.sub.1, the thermostat deactuates the main heating element and the secondary heating element alone is controlled to regulate variations in environmental temperature around the desired temperature level t. Both thermostatic functions are combined in a single device. Means are provided for adjusting the desired temperature level t and the set temperature t.sub.1 simultaneously for maintaining the difference .DELTA. t therebetween at a constant magnitude. Further, means are also provided for adjusting the difference .DELTA. t between the set temperature t, and the desired temperature level t.
