Patent number: 8302883Abstract: A thermal fuse integrated into an electrical circuit powering a heater element having a positive temperature coefficient includes at least one terminal in electrical connection with the heater element thereby connecting the heater element to a power source, and a solder jacket that mechanically retains the electrical connection between the terminal and heater element, wherein a biasing load is applied to the terminal when retained by the solder jacket, and wherein the terminal breaks connection with the heater element under the force of the bias when the solder jacket melts should the heater element overheat. By selecting the solder material forming the solder jacket according to its melt temperature, a temperature specific overheat protection for a heated fuel injector can be provided. Since the injector's metering circuit is separate from the thermal fuse circuit, the fuel injector remains operational even after the heater circuit is opened.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2008Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Jason C. Patent number: 7102482Abstract: The present invention relates to a fuse-relay including a first pole (1, 11, 21, 31, 81) and a second pole (2, 12, 22, 32, 82). According to the invention the fuse-relay includes a resilient device (5, 18, 27, 37, 87) that is held in an elastically deformed position by a fuse (6, 16, 26, 36, 86) when the fuse (6, 16, 26, 36, 86) is whole; and in that the resilient device (5, 18, 27, 37, 87) is arranged to make or break a connection between the first pole (1, 11, 21, 31, 81) and the second pole (2, 12, 22, 32, 82) when the fuse (6, 16, 26, 36, 86) is blown. The invention also relates to a cross-connect with such fuse-relays, to a telecommunication system with such cross-connects and to a connection method.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2002Date of Patent: September 5, 2006Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventor: Tore Andre

Patent number: 6127913Abstract: A bimetal 40 is secured at a holding portion 40b to a fixed pin 52 and a snap portion 40a is supported by a support portion 12a. The free end 40a" of the snap portion 40a comes in contact with a movable contact plate 30 to thereby rock the plate 30. The displacement of the snap portion 40a is restricted at a boundary end portion 40a' by the holding portion 40b. Due to this, when the thermal protector carries out a snap action (or is reversed), the snap portion 40a is rocked like a lever around the support portion 12a supporting the snap portion 40a, and the free end 40a" of the snap portion 40a is greatly displaced. Thus, the travelling distance by which the movable contact 32 travels when the movable contact plate 30 is rocked, can be increased. This can prevent a delay in snap.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1999Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Yamada Electric Mfg. Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masahiko Niino, Kazuo Ito, Tomoyuki Ito

Patent number: 5659285Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a thermostat including a protection circuit for protecting a circuit even if contacts of the thermostat are welded. Movable contacts are disposed in both ends of a resilient plate deformed by a thermally responsive member and stationary contacts are disposed to correspond to both the movable contacts. External terminals are disposed to correspond to the stationary contacts. The strength of the spring on the side of one movable contact of the resilient member is made weaker than the strength of the spring on the side of the other movable contact. Normally, the movable contact having the weaker strength of the spring is opened and closed in response to the deformation of the thermally responsive member and if this contact are welded, the other movable contact is opened and closed. In the preferred embodiment, the second thermally responsive member for operating one movable contact is provided.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Assignee: Uchiya Thermostat Co.Inventor: Hideaki Takeda

Patent number: 5612662Abstract: A thermal fuse includes a leaf spring formed of a narrow sheet metal strip. The leaf spring has ends and at least two contact points at the ends. At least one of the contact points is a soldering point for connection with corresponding circuit contacts of a circuit substrate. The leaf spring has at least one spring arm interconnecting the contact points. The spring arm has a roof-shaped deformation in the vicinity of one contact point. The spring arm has a flat and elongated spring segment with a transition adjoining the deformation and a transition extending to the other contact point. The spring segment is bending resistant in the vicinities of the transitions, for transforming a compressive deformation applied to the roof-shaped deformation into a lateral movement and into an arching of the spring segment, with both ends of the leaf spring attached to the circuit substrate without pretensioning.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1995Date of Patent: March 18, 1997Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Karl G. Patent number: 4050044Abstract: An electrical switch comprising a housing, and spring supported in the housing. The spring is made from resilient, flat material and carries a contact at each end thereof, each contact being adapted to engage a respective counter-contact carried by the housing. Two spring tongues are formed on the spring and are supported on support bearings under stress so that a contact can be snapped out of engagement with the corresponding counter-contact upon actuation of an actuating member which engages the spring. Preferably the actuating member is temperature-sensitive or is connected to a temperature-sensitive member so that the switch may be used as a temperature-sensitive switching element, thermal relay or thermostat.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1974Date of Patent: September 20, 1977Assignee: E.G.O. Patent number: 3968469Abstract: A detector for radiant heat has a housing with means movable therein between positions for controlling an electrical circuit. A pair of elongate metallic strips are disposed generally in overlaying relation and have adjacent portions thereof respectively interconnected, and one of the strips is adapted to be subjected to the radiant heat while generally shielding at least a part of the other of the strips therefrom. Means is spaced from the interconnected adjacent portions of the strips for separating them, and the one strip is elongatable upon subjection of radiant heat thereto relative to the shielded other strip for effecting pivotal movement of the strips generally about the separating means. Means is disposed between at least one of the one and other strips and the controlling means for effecting movement thereof to at least one of the circuit controlling positions upon the pivotal movement of the strips.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1974Date of Patent: July 6, 1976Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: Stanley J. Patent number: 3959691Abstract: The disclosure relates to a manual reset motor protector device having an arm of a nickel-titanium metal alloy or the like supporting an electrical contact and having a spring arm supporting a second electrical contact, both of these arms being mounted on a device housing. A manual reset member is slidable on the housing for deforming the arm of the noted nickel-titanium metal alloy from an original configuration to a second configuration while the nickel-titanium alloy is below a predetermined transition temperature, whereby the device contacts are normally engaged to close a device circuit. When the device is mounted on a motor for protecting the motor against over-temperature conditions, electrical current is normally directed through the device circuit.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1973Date of Patent: May 25, 1976Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventor: David E.
