Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing surge arrestors, the method including stacking varistors; and forming a coating of composite material on the stack. Between these steps, also included is placing a bead of flexible, adhesive, and dielectric material on the previously formed stack in register with the various interfaces between each pair of adjacent varistors.
Abstract: A resistor card for a potentiometer to measure the fuel in a fuel tank consists of a non-conductive substrate with a plurality of elongate conductive contacts deposited. The contacts have an elevation above the surface of the substrate and the contacts are oriented in parallel relationship to each other to form a wiper track across which a wiper is movable. To reduce the rate at which the upper surfaces of the contacts are worn away by movement of the wiper, a non-conductive filler is deposited between the conductive materials which form the lands.
Abstract: A linear potentiometer, having a longitudinal housing with a resistance path and with a wiper guided by a push rod sliding therein. The push rod is supported at its entry into the housing of the potentiometer via a slide bearing which contains an elastic ring element, preferably an O-ring. This ring element embodies the sole connection between a stationary outer bearing and an inner bearing which is movable in a swinging manner relative to the outer bearing because of the elastic connection. The push rod slides in the inner bearing. The inner and outer bearings, by means of opposing annular grooves, receive the elastic ring element connecting them.
Abstract: An improved variable resistor wherein the resistance element therein is readily removable for repair or replacement through the front of the resistor without otherwise dismantling it. The resistance element is carried on a control shaft which is rotatably journaled and releasably axially retained in the resistor. The resistance as carried on the shaft extends no further radially outward from the outer surface of the shaft than an amount sufficient to provide a proper electrical contact and yet allow the shaft to be axially removable through a journal at the front of the resistor. The resistance element may then be repaired or replaced without disconnecting leads to the resistor or further dismantling it or any framework in which it may be mounted.
