The deflector screen is formed as an integral structure, eliminating the need for separate deflector components secured by fastening elements along with the associated risks such as loosening or separation of the strip and contaminate build-up between the strip and the screen. The embossed deflector screen effectively deflects the pellets back toward the rotor where the pellets are reengaged with rotor energy, resulting in increased dryer efficiency and flow rate. The embossed deflector screen also enhances the overall structural strength of the screen, reduces manufacturing costs and prevents pellet entrapment that can lead to contamination in future runs.

Abstract: A continuous drying system for flake-formed or granular solid, of which bottom inside surface is semi-cylindrical and arranged almost horizontally, comprises drying system main body having a supplying means of a drying object at one end thereof and having a discharging means at the other end thereof, and a coil-formed sending apparatus arranged rotatably inside the main body, and a bar-formed or blade-formed stirring member arranged between the sending apparatus transversely. The drying object is transferred by said coil-formed sending apparatus, and a part of the drying object is retreated while stirring by scooping up the drying object with the stirring member along the inside surface of the main body of the drying object. The transfer of the drying object is delayed in comparison with the rotation of the sending apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5966832
Abstract: An improved apparatus, and related method of operation, is described for rapidly drying large monoliths of glass, ceramic and/or composite material, under subcritical conditions, while minimizing the risk of cracking the monolith during the drying process. The apparatus incorporates a pressure chamber for carrying the monolith to be dried, with no significant limitation on the size of the monolith relative to the size of the chamber. The monolith is initially immersed in a suitable drying solvent, and the temperature of the pressure chamber is raised to a predetermined value below the solvent's critical temperature, which raises the pressure to a predetermined value, likewise below the solvent's critical pressure. At a selected time during the drying process the pressure chamber is connected to a diffusion chamber, to draw away and condense solvent vapor.

  • Patent number: 5940982
Abstract: A continuous flow particulate material dryer includes a base and a heating chamber extending upwards from a central location of the base for providing heated air to the dryer. A perforated inner wall structure extends upwardly from the base and surrounds the heating chamber. A perforated outer wall structure is spaced apart from the inner wall and extends upwardly from the base surrounding the inner wall. A main drying chamber is defined by the space between the inner and outer wall structures. A perforated partition separates the main drying chamber into an inner and an outer chamber. The partition restricts the flow of particulate material from the inner chamber and the outer chamber. An upward facing conical protrusion mounts above the heating chamber for dispersing the particulate matter evenly into both inner and outer chambers. A circular chamber having a rotatable auger therein is used to collect the particulate material from the base of the dryer.

  • Patent number: 5709035
Abstract: A counter flow cooler in which feed material is fed into the top inlet of the cooler and dispersed into a plurality of cooling chambers. At the bottom of each cooling chamber is a discharge grid which will discharge feed material uniformly over the area of the cooling chamber. The discharge rate of this discharge grid can be adjusted to the desired throughput of the cooler. Air is drawn through the bottom of the discharge grid and passes up through the feed material in a counter flow manner. That is, while the product is passing down through the cooler, the air is passing up through the feed material, carrying away heat and possibly. A feed controller is used to selectively direct feed material into the plurality of cooling chambers. When a second batch of feed material is to be introduced into the cooler, feed material to the first cooling chamber is stopped and all the feed material is directed into the second cooling chamber.

Abstract: Single or multi-screw indirect-heating screw conveyor desorbers having a heating gas guide enclosed by the screw shaft wall (single-wall screw shafts) or located between a screw shaft wall and an internal chamber wall (double-walled screw shafts). Predetermined amounts of cooling and diluting fluid may be added to a heating gas stream to control the maximum temperature thereof. Screw shaft support bearings and rotary drive components may be cooled, and conveyor wall and/or screw shaft surfaces (e.g.. screw flights and interflight surfaces) may be automatically cleaned during screw shaft rotation by hardened bits and/or breaker devices. Cleaning operations may also involve the interaction of two counter-rotating conveyor screw shafts having mutually interleaved and opposite-handed external flights.

  • Patent number: 5664338
Abstract: A horizontal cooler/dryer having a continuous traveling conveyor, the conveyor being a chain conveyor formed of a plurality of links adjoined in end-to-end relationship, each of the links being pivotally pinned at its ends to adjacent links; a housing about the conveyor, the housing having a cooling gas inlet, a gas exhaust, a product inlet through which material to be cooled may be deposited on the conveyor and a product outlet through which cooled material can be discharged; and a plurality of non-perforate material pans mounted to the conveyor in juxtaposed overlapping relationship to form a substantially continuous surface about the conveyor. The product bed is leveled by dragging the lower edge of a hollow pivoting quarter drum across the product. The leveling is produced by the weight of the quarter drum pivoting down against the product. Counter weights can be used to control the leveling pressure against the product to avoid crushing or other product damage.
