  • Patent number: 6314660
Abstract: A system and method for fabricating flexible circuits. The inventive system includes an oven and three or more independent tensioners for moving a strip of flex tape therethrough. In total, N tensioners are provided per side. The tensioners provide a cumulative tension force T on the tape and each tensioner applies T/N of the total tension. The tension is applied tangentially in a single plane of the tape along a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis thereof In the illustrative embodiment, the tensioners are sprocket wheels. Eight sprocket wheels are disposed on a supply side of the system and eight wheels are disposed on a take-up side of the system. The sprocket wheels are adapted to engage sprocket holes in the tape. The tape has a sprocket wheel area and a die area. A silicon die is typically bonded to the die area with a suitable epoxy. Copper conductors on the tape communicate electrical signals from a printer or other mechanism to the silicon die.

  • Patent number: 6108938
Abstract: The invention is of methodologies and associated equipment, the practice and use of which, in the context of drying systems used in the drying of conveyorized articles bearing residual moisture from prior manufacturing steps, provides substantially enhanced drying efficacy and substantially accelerated drying rates, when compared with presently available drying systems. The present invention is of certain design parameters for drying systems, and associated methods, the practice of which result in impingement pressures, created by air or flowing from drying system nozzles onto to-be-dried articles of manufacture, which fall between the certain optimum ranges discovered by the present inventor for drying articles such as printed circuit boards in an assembly line context. The design parameters pertain to relative dimensions and positioning of air supply conduits, manifolds, nozzles, and conveyor surfaces, as well as performance parameters such as the velocity of air exiting the drying system nozzles.

  • Patent number: 5384969
Abstract: A bulk material dryer of the through flow type is equipped with an air permeable bulk material conveyor for carrying the bulk material through a dryer housing. The inlet and outlet ends of the dryer housing are sealed by paddle wheels, the paddles of which dip into the layer of bulk material on the bulk material conveyor. A moving filter belt is arranged in the dryer housing in such a position that dust laden air that has passed through the bulk material must also pass through the moving filter belt for the continuous cleaning of the drying air. One or more cleaning devices are arranged along the moving filter belt for in turn cleaning the filter belt, thereby assuring a continuous drying operation.

Abstract: An improved stereolithographic apparatus and method is described. In one embodiment, the improvement includes immersing at least a portion of a part in a volume of a liquid solvent in a vapor degreaser while subjecting the portion to ultrasonic agitation to substantially remove excess resin. Several examples of solvents are provided, including ethanol, and Freon TMS. In a second embodiment, the improvement includes building the part on a layer of liquid resin supported by a volume of a dense, immiscible, and UV transparent intermediate liquid, and integratably immersing at least a portion of the built part in the intermediate liquid, and then either subjecting the immersed portion to ultrasonic agitation to substantially remove excess resin, or subjecting the immersed portion to UV light. Several examples of intermediate liquids are provided, including perfluorinated fluids, such as Fluorinert FC-40, and water-based salt solutions, such as solutions of magnesium sulfate or sodium chloride in water.

  • Patent number: 5129162
Abstract: A method and apparatus for loading and unloading freeze-drying apparatus including at least one placement surface adapted to receive containers holding a product to be freeze-dried. The containers are placed on a table top of a transfer table, and the transfer table is brought into proximity with the placement surface in a chamber of a freeze-drying apparatus. A retractable frame assembly, movably secured to the transfer table, is used to transfer the containers from the transfer table top to the placement surfaces. The frame assembly is retracted from the chamber, and the freeze-drying process may then be implemented. Upon completion of freeze-drying, the frame assembly is introduced into the chamber, and is actuated to transfer the containers from the placement surfaces to the transfer table.

  • Patent number: 5129164
Abstract: A portable grain bin comprises a wheeled frame in which the wheels are movable relative to the frame to sit the frame on the ground and thereby transfer the load of material in the bin to the ground. The bin is grossly asymmetric with a bottom discharge much closer to one end than to other. The bottom wall nearest the bottom discharge is very steep. The bottom wall opposite the bottom discharge is relatively shallow but still exceeds a normal angle of repose of grain placed in the bin. The bottom discharge includes an opening spanned by a series of stationary slats and a movable member comprising a frame having a series of complementary slats which selectively align with or are offset from the stationary slats. The grain bin is used with a batch type grain dryer to provide surge capacity in a harvesting operation.

  • Patent number: 5065528
Abstract: An energy-saving type solar-heated drying apparatus for drying various types of matter, which utilizes a drying room surrounded by a solar-heat transmitting/absorbing wall. In the drying room, the matter is deposited on an elongated drying cage while exposed to a dry hot air produced by the solar heat. During drying treatment of the matter, the matter is moved from a supply side of the drying cage to a discharge side of the same in a longitudinal direction of the drying cage by means of a stirring/mixing transporter by which the matter is stirred/mixed while moved from the supply side to the discharge side of the drying cage. The dry hot air produced in the drying room under the influence of the solar heat is drawn into the drying cage, passing through the matter deposited thereon so as to evenly and effectively dry the matter.
