Leakage control is achieved by the cooperative effect of localized leak detectors and leak reduction means that applies a local sealing force on the seal assembly responsive to a signal from the leak detectors such that increased sealing occurs in the vicinity of the leak. In particular, an air press for paper web dewatering has improved efficiency by virtue of the leakage control system, which features local leak detectors and local force generation means associated with a flexible seal assembly to reduce leakage at the edges of the stationary plenum of the air press. • Patent number: 6280573
Abstract: Pressurized web treatment systems include a moving web that passes through a pressurized treatment chamber having a sealing assembly with a leakage control system. Local leak detection can be based on sonic measurement with microphones, detection of escaping tracer gas, optical signals, and other means.

  • Patent number: 6125551
Abstract: A rotating wafer processor uses a non-contacting gas seal mounted to a process chamber and a vibration isolation mount between the chamber and a support structure. The non-contacting seal incorporates a housing with a chamfer on opposing ends of an annular land encircling a rotating drive shaft, and one or more outlet ports on the chamfers to form a gas-purged, noncontacting seal. The seal is directly mounted to the chamber and interposed between the chamber and bearings that support the drive shaft, so the shaft, chamber and rotating load vibrate together.

  • Patent number: 5927970
Abstract: An apparatus is provided which is a trailer mounted rotating drum having an auger feed, an air tight seal, chain, and spiral and lateral flights within the drum which is heated externally, through which contaminated soil, such as drilling cuttings, is heated and processed to remove and reclaim the contaminants. The decontaminated soil exits through a dual trap door arrangement with the entry and exit door being 180 .degree. apart. A water quench line extends into the drum for dust suppression. The contaminant is typically diesel oil which has been added to drilling muds. The soil which exits the unit is essentially contaminant free, and the diesel oil which has been vaporized during the heating process is condensed and collected.

Abstract: A rotary drum mixer mixes product matter in a particulate form. A scoop section for the mixer has scoop blades which are radially enclosed by a peripheral wall which rotates with the drum. A stationary hood includes an outer face portion which covers the end wall of the scoop section and a peripheral portion which covers the peripheral wall of the scoop section, but neither the outer face portion nor the peripheral portion of the stationary hood contact product matter. The scoop blades are relatively flat and are angled into the direction of rotation. A back section is also included for the scoop blades. A seal assembly is positioned toward the inner diameter of the scoop blades and biases radially outward. The seal assembly may alternatively be positioned at the outer diameter of the scoop section, and/or the seal member may alternatively be biased radially outward.
