The interior area of the primary rotating pipe is bounded by a heated pipe. A first annulus is formed between the primary and second rotating pipes. A second annulus is formed between the second rotating pipe and the heated pipe. A third annulus is formed between the primary rotating pipe and the fixed pipe. A heater is positioned within the interior area of said primary rotating pipe. In one embodiment, an inlet gate is provided for introducing a liquid and solid mixture into the first annulus proximate the second end thereof. A first conveyor is provided to move the mixture toward the hot end of the primary rotating pipe.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2008Publication date: March 4, 2010Inventor: James Titmas

Publication number: 20080189977Abstract: The invention relates to a device and method for drying and deagglomerating moist feed material, whereby the feed material is kneaded, mixed and broken up by the action of at least one roller rolling on a driven plate and is dried by means of hot gas supplied thereto. The invention also relates to a method for converting this device into a mill drying device, whereby the at least one roll is provided with a pressing device.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2006Publication date: August 14, 2008Inventors: Andreas Halbleib, Karl Menzel, Pedro Guerrero Palma

Patent number: 6098307Abstract: A method for treating material comprising starch and starch-bearing products wherein the products are introduced to a thermal processor comprising a housing defining an inner wall surface, an inlet end, an outlet end, and an agitator rotatable within the housing adapted to direct the material into contact with the inner wall surface. The inner wall surface is heated and nozzles associated with the agitator are used for discharging fluid from the nozzles into contact with the material during rotation of the agitator. Heating to obtain treatment of the material is provided by contact with the inner wall surface and by controlling the fluid discharge from the nozzles to create turbulence for spreading the material over a broad surface area of the inner wall surface to enhance and render substantially uniform the heat exchange between the material, the fluid, and the inner wall surface, and to control mass transfer between the fluid and the material.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1998Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: Hosokawa Bepex CorporationInventors: Ilya Pikus, Greg Kimball, Kevin Burns

Patent number: 5906862Abstract: A method and apparatus for coating and drying coated substrates without introducing significant surface imperfections while running at higher web speeds than known drying methods. The substrate is preferably coated within the drying enclosure or the coating bead may form a closure at the entrance of the drying enclosure. The substrate is moved through a first drying enclosure along a first axis. The first drying enclosure is substantially isolated from an external environment. A first low velocity, substantially laminar flow field of a drying gas is directed across the front surface of the substrate. The first flow field is generally parallel to the front surface and generally perpendicular to the first axis to minimize the formation of surface imperfections during the evaporation of the coating solvent. The substrate may then be moved to subsequent drying enclosures through transition enclosures that minimize surface imperfections due to high velocity interaction between the adjacent drying enclosures.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1997Date of Patent: May 25, 1999Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Robert A. Patent number: 5735062Abstract: A method for transporting, drying and unloading lightweight particulate material involves taking a wheeled compartment having forward and rearward ends, a bottom, and opposite sides, forming a false bottom over the bottom to create an air duct therebetween, forming air ports in the false bottom which will deflect forced air passing therethrough from the air duct in a direction generally towards the rearward end, placing a quantity of peanut hulls in the compartment, forcing warm air into the air duct through the air ports and into the compartment to dry the peanut hulls, and moving the rearward end of the compartment to permit the air from the air ports to blow the dried hulls from the compartment out of the rearward end.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1996Date of Patent: April 7, 1998Assignee: Sukup Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Eugene G. Patent number: 5569438Abstract: In an apparatus for treating, for purposes of sterilization, a continuous material web a first treatment station is provided and includes a device for bringing a material web into contact with liquefied hydrogen peroxide. A second treatment station is also provided in which the material web is simultaneously sterilized with hydrogen peroxide vapor and dried with heated air after treatment of the material web in the first treatment station. The second treatment station includes an elongate chamber having an inlet and outlet, the material web being dried and thereby generating hydrogen peroxide vapor as it is led through the elongate chamber from the inlet to the outlet. The second treatment station also includes an outer flow duct in flow communication with the inlet and outlet of the elongate chamber.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1995Date of Patent: October 29, 1996Assignee: Tetra Laval Holdings & Finance S.A.Inventor: Anders Hilmersson
