Patent number: 8197907Abstract: The invention relates to a method for coating a metal strip with a coating containing a solvent and for drying and/or cross-linking said coating. Accordingly, the metal strip is provided with the coating in an inner chamber of a coating device. The coated metal strip is conducted through a drying unit and in an inner chamber of the latter is exposed to a form of energy by at least one radiation source that is cooled by a cooling gas, said form of energy being converted to heat in the coating and/or the metal strip. The cooling gas that is supplied to the radiation source flows through the latter, absorbs the waste heat from said source and is then conducted into the inner chamber of the drying unit, thus saving energy and gas. The invention also relates to an installation that is suitable for carrying out said method.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2005Date of Patent: June 12, 2012Assignee: Value & Intellectual Properties Management GmbHInventors: Andreas Dibon, Kai Baer

Patent number: 7737825Abstract: The circuitry introduced in this invention selectively slows down the functioning of an electronic circuit by maintaining a particular state for a prolonged period of time. This circuitry is used not only to achieve the desired effect in maintaining security from electronic thieves trying to circumvent codes but also in other applications such as enabling a circuit to continue to function in the event of a brief loss of power. For example, in an RFD system, if a reader is frequency hopping, a tag loses power for as long as about 400 milliseconds when the reader changes to other frequencies. In a preferred embodiment, the disclosed circuitry is used in conjunction with a destruct sequence.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2005Date of Patent: June 15, 2010Assignee: Alien Technology CorporationInventors: Roger G. Patent number: 7089681Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for filtering and drying a product. In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus comprises a container having a plurality of porous walls and a plurality of solid walls that divide the container into a plurality of product chambers, a plurality of vacuum chambers, and, preferably, a plurality of heat transfer chambers. Each product chamber shares at least one porous wall with an adjacent vacuum chamber. Each product chamber preferably shares at least one solid wall with an adjacent heat transfer chamber. According to the method of the present invention, a product is introduced into the product chambers, where the product is held while a substance is filtered from the product through the porous walls and the product is dried by reducing the pressure in the vacuum chambers and the product chambers.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2002Date of Patent: August 15, 2006Assignee: Alkermes Controlled Therapeutics, Inc.Inventors: Paul F. Patent number: 6990747Abstract: An etching processing apparatus 1 has a transfer chamber 2, a plurality of processing chambers 3 and 4, and a plurality of cassette chambers 7 and 8. Inside the transfer chamber 2, a transfer mechanism 14 is provided. A control device 17 pauses the operation of the vacuum pump 16 after closing an opening/closing valve 15 of a vacuum evacuating mechanism, which vacuum evacuates the transfer chamber 2 in which the transfer mechanism 14 is provided, when the operation of the transfer mechanism 14 is paused for a predetermined time or longer. Accordingly, conservation of energy becomes possible without causing decrease of productivity.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2004Date of Patent: January 31, 2006Assignees: Tokyo Electron Limited, Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Toshihiko Kitoku, Shinji Niwa, Toshiki Hosaka, Takashi Kitazawa, Atsuo Sanda, Yoshitaka Sato

Patent number: 6964117Abstract: An apparatus for drying a travelling wet fibrous web is provided which comprises a rotating air-permeable drum. The drum is at least partially surrounded by a hood which has an interior space for receiving a flow of air and directing the flow of air through a permeable inner wall towards the outer surface of the drum. At least a portion of the hood is divided into individual sections in a cross-machine direction. Apparatus is provided for supplying a flow of drying air at a first temperature to the hood, and for supplying profiling air at a selected different temperature different from the first temperature to at least one of the individual sections.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2002Date of Patent: November 15, 2005Assignee: Metso Paper USA, Inc.Inventor: Laurent R. Patent number: 5960560Abstract: A thermal solar dehydrator (16) comprising en enclosure (18) having a plurality of drying chambers (20) therein. A plurality of perforated trays (22) are provided. A plurality of runners (24) support the perforated trays (22) in vertically spaced apart relationships within the drying chambers (20) of the enclosure (18), so that food can be placed upon the perforated trays (22). A structure (26) is for forcing air into and out of the drying chambers (20). An assembly (28) is for allowing sunlight (30) to penetrate the enclosure (18) and heat up the air passing through the drying chambers (20), so that the food placed upon the perforated trays (22) will dehydrate.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1997Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Inventor: Fedna Stoll

Patent number: 5881476Abstract: An apparatus and method for evaporating a coating solvent from a coating on a first substrate surface of a substrate and for minimizing the formation of mottle as the coating solvent is evaporating. A drying oven includes an enclosure having an inlet and an outlet and defining a first drying zone. A plurality of drying subzones are within the first drying zone. At least two of the plurality of drying subzones employ different and controllable drying conditions. Physical barriers are not required to create the plurality of drying subzones.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1997Date of Patent: March 16, 1999Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Brian L. Patent number: 5713138Abstract: A dryer system for drying a coating applied to a substrate includes a thermally conductive roll having a length and a peripheral surface for supporting the substrate, and a plurality of energy emitters disposed within the conductive roll along the length of the conductive roll. The plurality of energy emitters are controlled to selectively emit energy along the length of the conductive roll. The conductive roll is at least partially surrounded by at least one convection unit. The convection unit includes a blower assembly, a heater assembly and a vacuum passageway. The blower assembly includes an inlet and directs a current of air towards the substrate. The heater assembly heats the air being directed towards the substrate.
