  • Patent number: 11604027
Abstract: A modular humidity control system is provided. An example system includes a body configured for attachment with a food storage housing. The body may define a closed circuit air flow path for circulating air through the food storage housing. The system also includes a desiccant element secured within the closed circuit air flow path that removes moisture from the moisture-laden air passing through the closed circuit air flow path, and stores the removed moisture. The system further includes a regeneration system that monitors a saturation of the desiccant element. In an instance in which the saturation of the desiccant element exceeds a saturation threshold, the regeneration system may evaporate at least a portion of the moisture stored by the desiccant element.

  • Patent number: 9200829
Abstract: A low temperature cooling and dehumidification system uses a reverse airflow arrangement to defrost a frosted cooling coil while not interrupting operation. Automatic air dampers are used to reverse the airflow at the proper time to initiate defrost of that section of frosted cooling coil. This system is useful for low temperature cooling and dehumidification in situations where the inlet air is above freezing, however exiting air below freezing can be supplied if desired. It is advantageous for operation if the coolant flow and temperature internal to the cooling coil are regulated to create the conditions for frost formation to begin closer to the air leaving side of the active cooling coil.

Abstract: A clothes dryer is provided with control elements which enable a user to set both a drying temperature and the amount of power sent to a main heating element of the dryer during a dryer cycle. In accordance with the most preferred form of the invention, an infinitely variable power supply controller is used to selectively establish the maximum power provided to the main heating element during the dryer cycle. The controller preferably is adjusted by a slider switch mounted on a control panel of the dryer. The switch is preferably provided with indicators to indicate the established power level.

Abstract: A process is provided for the safe storage of sodium percarbonate in a bulk container that is substantially closed to the ambient atmosphere. A temperature is measured at at least one position inside the sodium percarbonate stored in bulk and, with an increase in temperature within the range of 0.5 to 10° C. per day, in particular 1 to 5° C. per day, dry air is passed periodically or continuously through the bulk material until the increase in temperature has fallen to a value of less than 1° C. per day in particular less than 0.5° C. per day.

  • Patent number: 6568249
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the saturated, surface dry (SSD) condition point of aggregates includes warm air-drying of a water saturated aggregate sample of known initial weight. The sample is rotated in an open mesh screened drum, and heated ambient air is passed radially through the drum and the sample to remove water. Initially surface water is removed, followed by pore water. The loss in water weight and the exit air relative humidity (EAH) is tracked by sensors and recorded. The EAH values change significantly at the SSD point. Following SSD point determination, the test procedure continues until all free water is removed from the sample to determine total moisture content of the sample.

  • Patent number: 6430841
Abstract: Liquid is removed from batches of substrates by apparatus and methods for drying substrates that have been wet in an elongated liquid bath. The substrates are moved relative to the bath and an elongated gas-filled volume at rates of movement selected according to the location of the batches of substrates in the bath or the volume. As an example, the substrates and the bath are separated at a controlled rate to form a thin layer of liquid on each substrate as each substrate enters the gas-filled volume. The gas-filled volume is defined by an elongated hot chamber and hot gas directed into the volume and across the substrates and out of the volume continuously transfers thermal energy to the substrates. The flow rate of the gas into the volume is related to introduction of the substrates into the bath to avoid disturbing the liquid in the bath.

Abstract: A method and device for drying a coated web. The coated web is first conveyed through a web heating unit (10, 32, 40), in which the temperature of the coated web is raised, typically to drying temperature, by directing jets of heating air at the coated web, the humidity a1 of the said heating air jets being higher than the humidity a2 of the drying air jets. After this the coated web is conveyed through at least one air dryer (34, 36, 38; 42, 44, 46), in which drying air jets are directed at the coated web for drying the coated web.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for control of moisture content of material such as thermoplastic pellets (80) in a hopper (30) is controlled by supplying dehumidified air from a dessicant bed (90) to the hopper (30) and returning air from the hopper (30) to the dessicant bed (90). A dew point sensor (10) in the return air path determines the moisture content of the material (80) in the hopper (30), and when the dew point drops to a pre-set level, a diverter (134) causes the return air flow to bypass the dessicant bed (90) and to be re-supplied to the hopper (30) without dehumidification. Two dessicant beds are provided, one of which is on-process while the dessicant in the other is regenerated.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for drying a paper to be surface-treated, in particular fine paper, in an after-dryer in a paper machine. The paper web is first dried in a forward dryer section of the paper machine by one or more groups with single-wire draw that are open downward on support of a drying wire, the paper web is then finished in a finishing section, e.g., surface-sized or coated, and thereafter, the paper web is dried by an upwardly open inverted group with single-wire draw. In the inverted group with single-wire draw, the tendency of curling formed in the paper web in the forward dryer section can be substantially eliminated and/or compensated for.
