  • Patent number: 9864382
Abstract: An air dryer having a heater element associated with its valves to prevent freezing at cold temperatures. The air dryer includes a temperature sensor and an electronic controller that reads the temperature sensor during normal operations and selectively opens and closes certain of the valves when the temperature falls below a predetermined threshold to enter a safe mode that avoids freezing of the valves during operation. If an exhaust valve is open when safe mode is entered, the corresponding inlet valve is closed, both of the exhaust valves are closed, and the other inlet valve if opened. If an exhaust valve is not open, both inlet valves are opened and both exhaust valves are closed.

  • Patent number: 9085845
Abstract: An apparatus to detect opening and closing of a door in a washing machine by detecting a resistance value varying according to a lever position of a door lock switch. In the apparatus to detect opening and closing of a door in a washing machine, since a resistance meter is added to the inside of a component with the contact being eliminated therefrom, it may be possible to simplify an inner structure of the component and to reduce material costs. In addition, opening and closing of a door is accurately detected as a resistance value of the resistance meter varies by rotation of a gear instead of surface contact between contacts, and thus it may be possible to prevent a detection error in the event of contact short circuits due to moisture and to enhance component reliability.

  • Patent number: 6907680
Abstract: Method for drying laundry and a machine able to implement such a method, which provides for the use of only one electric resistance for heating the air utilized for drying purposes. According to the invention, during the starting phase of the drying process, i.e. the initial stage of the air heating, said resistance is applied continuously for exploiting its maximum power and quickly reach a predetermined temperature of the drying air. Following the attainment of said predetermined temperature, a special control circuit causes said resistance to be applied in a shuttered or modulated way, i.e. by alternating application phases to non-application phases within repetitive reference periods, in order to manage the power of the resistance in its steady-state condition for obtaining a substantial constancy of the air temperature.

Abstract: A laundry drier control method is provided, by which drying time is dynamically controlled according to an amount and type of a drying object, using a calculated medium temperature to determine a medium temperature time. The method includes steps of initiating a drying procedure by actuating drivers, including a heater driver to increase an internal temperature of a laundry drier; determining a medium temperature time by measuring a time lapse from the drying procedure initiating step to a point where the internal temperature reaches a medium temperature between a drying initiation temperature and a maximum drying temperature; setting a drying time based on the determined medium temperature time; and performing the drying procedure for the set drying time. The drying time is set by multiplying the determined medium temperature time by a predetermined factor. The drying initiation temperature is the internal temperature at the time of initiating the drying procedure.
