Patent number: 8797150Abstract: A real-time management networking system for a manufacturing environment, e.g., chemical, assembly, automobile, electronic, petroleum. In a specific embodiment, the system has a spatial region, which is adapted for one or more manufacturing equipment devices. The one or more manufacturing equipment devices is associated with a manufacture of a product. In a specific embodiment, the manufacturing equipment is able to generate a high frequency noise, which causes interference with a conventional data signal, which is often unshielded. In a specific embodiment, the system has a power line gateway device provided within a desired region of the spatial region.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2007Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Asoka USA CorporationInventor: Tat Keung Chan

Patent number: 8416069Abstract: An embodiment of a communication system can control transmission of a data signal to a power distribution network based on signal data measured from the power distribution network. The signal data may represent an amount of crosstalk or an amount of noise experienced on the power distribution network. The signal data and an identification of at least one active power line coupler unit can be used to determine an adjustment to one or more power line coupler units. A control signal that represents the adjustment can be used to adjust the power line coupler units.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2009Date of Patent: April 9, 2013Assignee: Landis+Gyr Technologies, LLCInventors: Verne Jon Olson, James Hilmer Glende, Michael Lloyd Schroeder

Patent number: 8405488Abstract: A system and method is provided for encoding and decoding control signals to an electronic ballast. An encoding circuit is effective to transmit encoded control signals across an AC power line comprising patterns of energy bursts at zero crossings of an AC signal. Eight zero crossings define a set, five specific patterns of energy bursts within a set define distinct symbols, each defined symbol selected such that a Hamming distance between each symbol is greater than three. Four symbols correspond to a first logic condition and one symbol corresponds to a second logic condition. Each received symbol is sequentially associated with a distinct control channel having one or more control parameters. A receiving circuit in the ballast is effective to decode symbols with single-bit error correction by comparing received symbols to defined symbols and determining which symbol is a smallest Hamming distance from a received symbol.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2009Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: Universal Lighting Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Henry Jacobs, John J. Patent number: 8400260Abstract: The subject application is directed to securing authorized access to a document processing device. Address information data associated with each mobile data device is first stored in a data storage. An incoming data message is received from a first mobile data device having identifier data assigned to the mobile device. The identifier data is then compared to stored address data and operation of a document processing device is selectively enabled via a user interface associated with the processing device according to an indication that identifier data corresponding to the received data is present in the storage. Electronic document data corresponding to an electronic document is received into the document processing device. Instruction data associated with a document processing operation is then received via the interface. Confirmation data is sent to the mobile device confirming the desired document processing operation. The desired operation is then commenced on the electronic document data.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2008Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignees: Kabushiki Kaisha Toshiba, Toshiba Tec Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Ken Stephenson, Marianne Kodimer, Louis Ormond

Patent number: 8345686Abstract: A network system comprising a system of devices having a plurality of nodes defining a communications network. At least one identifier from a pre-determined group of identifiers is associated with each of the nodes and identifies the functionalities that are applicable to that node or device associated with that node. In one embodiment, at least one of the nodes can transmit the at least one identifier by a message sent over the communications network for receipt by at least one of the nodes to thereby publish the functionalities over the communications network.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2006Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Whirlpool CorporationInventors: Richard A. Patent number: 8237579Abstract: A system comprising a clock board comprising a clock generator, a first board comprising an indicator and coupled to said clock board. The clock generator generates a clock signal, and the first board is configured to receive said clock signal. The first board further comprises a clock synchronizing unit that synchronizes a reference signal with said clock signal and generates a blink cadence signal based on said reference signal. The blink cadence signal is configured to drive the indicator of said first board. A failure by said first board to receive said clock signal causes the clock synchronizing unit of said first board to maintain the reference signal and generate said blink cadence signal based on said reference signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2009Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventor: David Maciorowski
