Patent number: 12055618Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a location determination system that includes acoustic transmitting devices and mobile devices. A mobile device receives acoustic signals (e.g., ultrasound signals) from an acoustic transmitting device. The mobile device must be able to identify the acoustic transmitting device with particularity when receiving the acoustic signals. It is more efficient to use a short identifier, for example 6 bits, for this purpose because it requires less power to transmit and decode. By utilizing the rotating identifier system described herein, more acoustic transmitting devices can be distinguished than using a time-invariant identifier would otherwise provide, and the transmissions are more secure and therefore less vulnerable to free-riders.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2017Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: Sonitor Technologies ASInventors: Wilfred Edwin Booij, Endre Bakka, Fritjof Boger Engelhardtsen

Patent number: 9666177Abstract: The invention relates to an audio system for generating an audio signal. More specifically the invention relates to an audio system, especially an audio alarm system, for generating an audio signal comprising means for generating a component of the audio signal at a base frequency and means for generating further components of the audio signal at other frequencies than the base frequency, whereby the base and the other frequencies are separated from each other by separating frequency bands in order to enhance the loudness of the audio signal. The invention furthermore relates to a method for generating an audio signal, a computer program and an audio signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2009Date of Patent: May 30, 2017Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Steven Van Raalte, Ronnie Duisters

Patent number: 9548774Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for generating a quadrature signal that may be used to modulate and/or demodulate communication signals transmitted between communication devices. A quadrature signal generator may include a control block, a mixer, and a filter. The control block may generate a reference signal and a filter control signal based on an input clock signal. The mixer may generate a mixer output signal based on the input clock signal and the reference signal. The filter, controlled by the filter control signal, may filter the mixer output signal to suppress a band of frequencies within the mixer output signal.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2015Date of Patent: January 17, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Saihua Lin, Jianlei Shi

Patent number: 9379769Abstract: An approach for selecting sets of communications channels involves determining the performance of communications channels. A set of channels is selected based on the results of performance testing and specified criteria. The participant generates data that identifies the selected set of channels and provides that data to other participants of the communications network. The participants communicate over the set of channels, such as by using a frequency hopping protocol. When a specified time expires or monitoring of the performance of the channel set identifies poor performance of the set of channels, the participant selects another set of channels for use in communications based on additional performance testing. By selecting channels based on the initial performance testing and performance monitoring, the communications network adaptively avoids channels with poor performance.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2014Date of Patent: June 28, 2016Assignee: Bandspeed, Inc.Inventors: Hongbing Gan, Bijan Treister, Efstratios Skafidas

Patent number: 8988193Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the position of four tires on corresponding four wheels in a vehicle. Each wheel has an axis of rotation. Each tire has an embedded Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) tag. The RFID tags embedded in the four tires have respective identifiers denoted as ID1, ID2, ID3, and ID4. A position to place a reader antenna is determined and the reader antenna is subsequently placed in the determined position. The reader antenna in the determined position emitting N signals to the respective RFID tag in the four tires. A delay is measured for receiving each signal reflected from the RFID tags. Which wheel of the four wheels each tire is on is identified according to the measured delays.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2009Date of Patent: March 24, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Frederic Bauchot, Jean-Yves Clement, Gerard Marmigere, Pierre Secondo

Patent number: 8810378Abstract: This disclosure relates to enhanced control of user configurable devices, such as robots. One system may include a user-configurable device and an on-vehicle programmable controller coupled to the user-configurable device. This system may further include a wireless receiver coupled to the on-vehicle programmable controller via one signal wire, where a substantial portion of the receiver-controlled communications occur using the one signal wire. Another system may include (alternatively or in combination as appropriate) a user-configurable device including an on-vehicle programmable controller and a first tether port. The system may also include a remote control transmitter with at least one wireless output and a second tether port, where the transmitter is communicably coupled to the user-configurable remote control device.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2007Date of Patent: August 19, 2014Assignee: Innovation First, Inc.Inventors: David Anthony Norman, Robert H. Patent number: 8670711Abstract: The invention is a method of managing a NFC transaction between two hosts and a reader device. The two hosts are embedded in NFC devices and are intended to be identified by the reader device during an anti-collision phase through a first identifier and a second identifier respectively. The first identifier comprises a variable part. The method includes the steps of generating the first identifier, the variable part of the first identifier and the second identifier comprising a common pattern, looking for a common pattern into the first and second identifiers on the reader device side, and if a common pattern is found and if the variable part of the first identifier comprises said common pattern, concluding that the first and second hosts are embedded in a unique NFC device.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2010Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: Gemalto SAInventors: Jean-Yves Fine, Alain Rhelimi

Patent number: 8330572Abstract: A multiple barrier control system includes a plurality of barrier operators configured to move associated access barriers between limit positions. Each of the barrier operators are enabled to communicate with one or more local transmitters. The local transmitters may maintain an all-close button, an all-open button, and an all-stop button, which are associated with corresponding functions maintained by the barrier operators. Upon the actuation of one of the buttons, the associated function is simultaneously carried out by each of the associated barrier operators. Additionally, a portable network control may invoke the simultaneous control of functions at each of the barrier operators via an associated communication network. Moreover, scenes may be created wherein the barrier operators and other accessories, such as lights and appliances, may be moved or actuated to a desired status upon actuation of a scene button on either the local transmitter or the portable network control.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2007Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Homerun Holdings CorporationInventors: Yan Rodriguez, James S.
