Abstract: A method and system that limits the use of a communication device present in an area controlled by an intelligent controller. The intelligent controller detects any present communication devices in the area and conducts an inventory providing information about each detected device. The intelligent controller compares that information to a standard of use data, which specifies the conditions need to be present for allowing the usage of a communication device. If such conditions are not met, the intelligent controller sends commands to the communication device to restrict its functionality. Else if, the intelligent controller is incapable of restricting the communication device, it can notify authorities of unauthorized usage of a communication device in the restricted area.

  • Patent number: 7764169
Abstract: A monitoring system for detecting faults in an apparatus, such as a ski lift, employs a communication network onto which a sensor bus controller periodically transmits a safety message and receives a echo of each safety message. Different sensors are coupled to sensor adapter modules that in turn are connected in a series to the communication network. After the last sensor adapter module in the series, each safety message is echoed back along the communication network. Each sensor adapter module, upon receiving a safety message, increments a count in that message and transmits the resultant safety message to another module. When a sensor indicates a fault condition, the associated sensor adapter module blocks propagation of safety messages along the communication network. The sensor bus controller determines, in response to a failure to receive the echo and to the count in the echo, whether a fault occurred.

The portable devices are configured to be carried by emergency services personnel while at an emergency site. The portable devices each have a first transceiver configured to communicate over a first network and a second transceiver configured to communicate over a second network, where the first and second networks operate independent of one another. For example, they may have at least one of different first and second carrier frequencies, protocol, channels and the like. The base station has at least one transceiver for communicating with the portable devices over at least one of the first and second networks. Optionally, the first and second networks may have different transmission characteristics, such as different transmit ranges, power levels and the like.

Abstract: The invention achieves secure data transmission in a communications system (1) employed to control safety-relevant processes, through the provision of cooperating evaluators (212, 222) arranged in a shared manner in communications stations (21, 22) in order to evaluate safety-oriented data in a simple and cost-effective way. Accordingly, the invention provides a method in which a data report is transmitted from a first station (21), by means of a communications system (1) designed for serial data transmission, to a second station and said data report is checked by means of a second evaluator (222) arranged in the second station (22). Depending on the results of the check of the data report, an acknowledgement report is transmitted from the second station (22) to the first station (21), which [acknowledgement report] likewise is checked by the evaluator (212) arranged in the first station (21). Furthermore, the invention provides for a system to carry out the method.
