Patent number: 8026798Abstract: An apparatus for presenting a time-variant information element in a vehicle, which has a steering wheel (1602), comprises one or more remotely and individually controllable tactile pads (1620), which produce a tactile sensation in response to a respective pad output signal, which is produced by a controller (CTRL). The tactile pads are positioned or adapted to be positioned on the steering wheel (1602) or proximate to it, such that they can be touched by at least one hand (1610,1612) of the vehicle driver while driving the vehicle. The apparatus further comprises means for determining the time-variant information element to be presented and for applying the determined time-variant information element to the controller and means for encoding the determined time-variant information element by the controller into temporal variations of the one or more pad output signals.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2008Date of Patent: September 27, 2011Assignee: Senseg Ltd.Inventors: Ville Makinen, Jukka Linjama, Moaffak Ahmed

Patent number: 7079022Abstract: A safety device is provided that can be connected with a technical device and an associated emergency activation apparatus. The safety device includes a rail. The rail and emergency activation apparatus are fashioned such that the emergency activation apparatus can be attached to the rail and be shifted thereon. A test signal can be output by the rail that can be received by an emergency activation apparatus attached thereto independent of its shift position. A response signal can be output by the emergency activation apparatus that can be received by the rail independent of the shift position emergency activation apparatus. The safety device is fashioned such that a signal can be emitted to the technical device dependent on the receipt of the response signal. Via the signal, an emergency measure can be triggered, for example an emergency disconnection of the technical device such as an E-stop or, respectively, dead-man's function.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2004Date of Patent: July 18, 2006Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Robert Kagermeier, Reiner Staab

Patent number: 6545602Abstract: A fire alarm system provided with a fire receiver (1) to which a plurality of fire sensors and controlled apparatuses are connected. The fire receiver (1) comprises a LAN interface (11) for connecting with other fire receivers. When a fire sensor issues an alarm, the fire receiver transmits the fire information over the LAN together with a group number set in advance, and displays (12) only the fire information of the same group number when the fire receiver receives fire information transmitted from the other fire receivers via the LAN. Thus, even is a plurality of fire receivers are used in a large building divided into ridge sections, fire information can be shared without causing disorder.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2001Date of Patent: April 8, 2003Assignee: Nohmi Bosai Ltd.Inventors: Yasuo Yamaguchi, Makoto Sakihara, Kouichi Hishino, Takahiro Oki, Munehiro Onji

Patent number: 6452490Abstract: A method and apparatus for communicating between Customer Premises Equipment, (CPE) alarm sensing devices, and alarm monitoring stations. The sensing devices communicate with an end office switch by transmitting a message, such as a string of Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency, (DTMF) digits to that switch. At the switch, the message is processed and a determination is made which of a plurality of alarm monitoring stations should receive the alarm indication. One or more data packets are sent to the selected alarm monitoring stations with the packets identifying the source of the alarm indication, and the type of alarm indication. Advantageously, the packetized communication between the end office switch and the alarm monitoring system allows a high volume of alarm indications to be sent to an alarm monitoring station, because individual telephone connections are not required for each such alarm message.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1999Date of Patent: September 17, 2002Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Stuart Mandel Garland, John Andrew Johnson, Eric Edward Kampmeier, James Allen Kowal, David B. Patent number: 6313744Abstract: A building alarm system includes addressable notification appliances connected to a system controller, with each notification appliance having a status indicator and an alarm indicator. The status indicator, such as an LED, provides for system test modes that avoid disruption of building occupants. To test the alarm system, the system controller selects which notification appliances to operate in response to a test alarm input and communicates to each selected appliance an instruction to operate its associated status indicator without operating its associated audible or flashing visible alarm indicators. In a troubleshooting mode, the system controller polls each of the notification appliances and receives an answer in response to the poll from any of the appliances. The controller operates the LED indicators of those appliances which answer the poll.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1998Date of Patent: November 6, 2001Assignee: Simplex Time Recorder CompanyInventors: Anthony J. Patent number: 6118374Abstract: The invention concerns a process and a device for the recognition of screws used in extruders or metering devices. In order to create a process that excludes the possibility that mixtures of granulates or powders with incorrect mixing ratios occur through installation of inappropriate screw shafts in metering screws, the screws are coded and the code is electronically identifiable.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1998Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Windmoller & HolscherInventor: Richard Saatkamp

Patent number: 5818334Abstract: In a communication system such as a fire detection system, individual addressable devices determine their addresses from address interface modules at the device locations. An interface module includes wire connectors for receiving system wires and a device connector. The interface module also includes jumper wires which serve as a readable address identifier adapted to be programmed to an address with installation of the module and to be subsequently read by the addressable device.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1995Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Assignee: Simplex Time Recorder CompanyInventor: Lawrence G. Patent number: 4988977Abstract: A fire detector assembly comprises a base (1) and a sensor (5) adapted to fit the base. The base (1) is provided with passive means, such as pins (6) or contacts arranged in a pattern to represent an address of the detector. When the sensor (5) is fitted to the base (1), reading means in the sensor reads the address code and thereby conditions the sensor to receive appropriate signals from a control unit.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1989Date of Patent: January 29, 1991Assignee: Apollo Fire Detectors LimitedInventors: Roger D. Patent number: 4271405Abstract: In an alarm control system for protecting a premises, a four conductor bus line leading from a master control station is extended about the interior perimeter of the premises. Sensors positioned near each port of entry to be monitored are connected in parallel relationship to the bus line, as is at least one remote station for manually arming, disarming or activating the system. Each sensor comprises a biased reel carrying line secured to window, door, screen, or the like. Disturbance of a sensor causes a magnetically responsive switch therein to generate a pulse triggering circuitry within the control station to activate the desired alarm device for a predetermined period of time. The system then resets automatically to an armed or ready condition to continue protecting the premises against subsequent intrusions. Preferably, the lines in the sensors are of a thermoplastic material so that the system is also activated by abnormally high temperature in the event of fire.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1978Date of Patent: June 2, 1981Inventor: Lawrence P.
